Sharon Zander Obituary

Sharon Ann Zander

BISMARCK - Sharon Ann Zander, 82, died peacefully on May 6, 2023 at CHI St. Alexius surrounded by her loving children.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 11, at Corpus Christi Church, 1919 N 2nd St., Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 10, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 PM.

Interment will be held at the Mandan Union Cemetery, Mandan.

Sharon was born November 28, 1940 in Mandan, the eldest daughter of Thomas and Eva (Gress) Pope. She was raised and educated in Mandan where she graduated from Mandan High School in 1958. Sharon met the love of her life, Jerry Zander, as a freshman in high school and they began their life journey as husband and wife on October 26, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan.

Sharon furthered her education in cosmetology, becoming the family's hairdresser for many years. She maintained her license past the age of 80. She was also an amazing seamstress. She sewed clothes for herself as well as for family, including holiday dresses and elaborate Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. Her most rewarding career was taking care of her family. Sharon's most endearing quality was her selflessness. Time and again she put her family's needs above her own. The light of her life was her four grandchildren, for whom she provided the most loving day care imaginable. She was extremely proud of each one and loved them dearly.

Sharon is survived by her two children, Nancy (Gene) Walker and Stacy (Wendy) Zander; four grandchildren, Brock Walker (fiance Caylie), Mason Walker, Sarah (Thomas) Krieger, and Jack Zander; three sisters, Anita Baillie, Laura Pope (Larry) Anderson, and Laine Pope; two sisters-in-law, Sharon (Dave) Geiger and Beverly (Don) Satnan and one brother-in-law, Bruce Zander; and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Jerry (2010), brother, Robert Pope; and her parents.

Special thanks to Danette Pengilly for going above and beyond in her exceptional care of Sharon over the years. Thanks also to the caring staff of Heart & Lung Clinic.
