On Saturday, March 6, 2021, Dennis C. Griffin, loving husband and father of three children, passed after a brave and valiant battle with cancer.

Dennis was born on September 18, 1949 in Valdese, NC to Cecil and Dorothy Griffin. He moved to Hendersonville, NC when he was in the eighth grade, graduated West Henderson High School in 1967, and made that his home for the rest of his life. On November 22, 1980, he married Susan Sears Griffin, his great love for over 40 years. They raised two daughters, Mandy and Laura, and a son, Andrew.

Dennis learned the art of brick masonry from his father growing up and turned his passion into a career. He did both contracting work and taught masonry at Edneyville High School and West Henderson High School. He taught with patience and love. He was open minded and met his students wherever they were. His gentle nature was sometimes in direct contradiction to the strength he possessed.

Dennis also loved cowboys and was rarely seen without his signature hat. He liked to read and was an avid letter writer. He was a proud member of French Broad Baptist Church and held various positions over the years, his favorite being the Sunday School teacher of the three-year-old class with his good friend Noel Watts. He was active in the Land of Sky Masonry Chapter for over 30 years.

Dennis's most important role was that of Daddy and Pa. He taught his family to be kind and forgiving, to get up early and put in a good day's work, and that anything was possible if they relied on each other.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Dorothy, and his sister, Gay. He is survived by his wife Susan, his children, Mandy (Frank), Laura (Ian), and Andrew (Kassie), his sisters, Rose Mary and Cheri, and his grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, Isabelle, Eli, Liam, Cecilia, and Jameson. He also loved his nieces and nephews very dearly.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in June at Dennis's request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to French Broad Baptist Church at 182 Grandview Lane, Hendersonville, NC 28791.
