Hendersonville - Jane Shelton Stembridge, 85, died suddenly Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at' Pardee Hospital,

Born April 7, 1936 in Cedartown, Georgia she was the daughter the late Reverend Henry Hansel Stembridge,Jr. and Lois Sawyer Stembridge. Moving to Forest City at a young age, she graduated from Cool Springs High School Class of 1954 where she served as the Valedictorian. She went on to graduate from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina and later graduated from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Jane returned to Georgia where she worked with the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King in the Civil Rights Movement and taught school for several years. Jane was a gifted artist, and always considered Forest City her home.

Survivors include her special friend of 38 years, Mary Boekholder of East Flat Rock, North Carolina, and her brother, Henry Hansel "Hank" Stembridge of Forest City.

In keeping with her wishes, Jane's ashes will be scattered in the waters of the Western North Carolina Mountains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jane's memory to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Post Office Box 336, Forest City, North Carolina 28043,
