Matthew Young Obituary

Dr. Matthew G. Young, age 62, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18th, in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was born January 12th, 1957, in Franklin, IN, to Pamela and James Young. He was a 1975 graduate of Franklin Community High School, a 1979 graduate of Davidson College, and a 1983 graduate of Indiana University's Dental School. He married Susan Young on August 10th, 1984, Etowah, North Carolina.
Loving the mountains, Dr. Young made his home, with Susan, in Western North Carolina. Together, with his mother-in-law, Doris, they founded a highly impactful general dental practice that would improve the lives of thousands, for the next three decades with a holistic focus. His passion for healing lead him to serve as President of the International Academy or Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). Matthew also enjoyed cooking, spending time at the beaches of South Carolina, his dogs, sharing time with his sons, Alabama football, and his three grandchildren. Matthew will be remembered as a man who lived with empathy and a passion for healing. He is survived by his wife, Susan; his two sons, Ezekiel, and Caleb; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer and his three grandchildren, Rylie, Tucker, Shiloh; his three sisters, Sara, Mindy, and Carrie; and his loving dog, Tyson.

I absolutely loved Dr. Young. He was the best dentist I ever had and, by far, one of the kindest men I have ever met. I got there really early one morning because I have to drive quite a distance, and he took me into the back and showed me how to make coffee and that is not what normally happens in dentist offices. Normally you just sit out in front until somebody comes and gets you. I miss his excellence as a dentist and just being in his gentle presence was always so calming, even when I had to have a procedure that I didnt welcome. I know that he is so missed by every one of his clients. God bless his family. If his clients miss him so much, I cant imagine how painful it is for his family. I just found this or I would have written these words a lot sooner.

We loved Dr. Young so much that we would drive from Greenville to go to the dentist. He was so kind. You could tell that he truly loved other people. My kids loved going to the the dentist... well as much as a kid could. He gave me confidence to get my oral health in check. You will be missed.

Dr. Young took me in over 15 years ago after several dentists "messed me up". Trust was almost immediate with him. Loved his wife and staff as well. . .like family. I join with his family in grieving this great loss.

I just found out about Dr. Young's passing. I'm devastated. He single-handedly eliminated my fear of going to the dentist and got me back on the road to good health. And, to top it off, he was one of the nicest, kindest men I've ever met. My deepest sympathy to his family and coworkers. We've lost a good'un.
