Charles Alexander Obituary
Charles Hake Alexander, born September 11, 1959, in Abilene, Texas to Robert and Frances Alexander, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2025 in Sarasota, Florida.
Charles, also known as Charlie, spent his formative years in Bexley, Ohio, with his beloved parents, brother Rob, sister Lisa, and a tight-knit group of friends. He grew up spending every summer on Lake Michigan, at his family's cottage on Northport Point, surrounded by loved ones and generations of Alexander history - this was Charlie's happy place and where he felt most at peace.
After graduating from Bexley High School in 1978, Charlie bounced around a bit: working as a baker in Santa Cruz, CA, managing a hotel in Edgartown, MA, and seeing the Grateful Dead several times. Eventually, in 1985, Charlie would land in Boca Grande and begin his career at The Gasparilla Inn, first as a bartender at The Pink Elephant. Charlie would soon work his way up to the role of Reservations Manager at The Inn, a title he held for almost two decades, and where he would develop meaningful relationships with guests and members.
Charlie was a proud member of the "Bexley Boys" who all moved to Boca Grande and began working at The Inn in the 80s and early 90s. He was in good company with several of his oldest and closest friends, including Steve Seidensticker, Andy Nagle, and Jay Holzworth.
Charlie met his wife, Lisa Alexander (Barton), in Boca Grande and the two were married at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on June 24, 1989. Charlie and Lisa raised their two children, John and Sarah, on the island, first living as a family of four at The Inn dorms on 7th Street, before designing and building their dream home on Barbarossa Street in 1995.
After his time at The Inn, Charlie would go on to briefly work as a realtor at Gulf to Bay Sotheby's, as well as several years as General Manager at the High Hampton Resort in Cashiers, NC.
Charlie will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and fun, generous spirit. He was a loving father and dear friend to many. Among his favorite things were playing and watching golf, Ohio State football, and all things music. He was an avid guitar player.
Charlie is survived by his two children, John R. and Sarah B. Alexander, his son-in-law Christopher Costello, his brother Robert H. Alexander and his wife Laura Beggin, his nieces Katherine H. and Mary F. Alexander, his sister Lisa A. Webber, his niece Ashley W. Farone and her husband Loren Farone, as well as his great nieces Sofia, Frances, and Elise Farone. Charlie loved deeply and was loved deeply in return. He will be forever missed.
