David Dean Obituary

David Dean, 69

David Nelson Dean, cherished for his roles as a dedicated father, loving husband, brother, and friend, passed away on February 14, 2024.

Born on June 19, 1954, in Roswell, New Mexico, David was the son of Gladys Harriet Nelson and Donald Lloyd Dean. His life was a reflection of his strong faith in Jesus Christ, which deeply influenced him and inspired those around him.

Growing up with sisters Debra Dean, Pamela Snow, and Melody Mast, David was instilled with family values and spiritual beliefs from a young age, shaping his compassionate and service-oriented nature.

In 1975, David's spiritual path led him to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a decision that defined his lifelong dedication to his faith. The following year, he met his future wife, Diana Buckley. Their relationship blossomed into marriage on December 17, 1976, and was further solidified when sealed in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Cardston Canada Temple in 1977.

David and Diana were blessed with three children: Shalise Cox, Michael Dean, and Beth McCown, to whom David was a guiding and loving father. His faith greatly influenced not only his children but also his seven grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

An active church member, David served in various capacities, including youth leadership and as a bishop in the Priest River, Idaho, ward, where his service, love and wisdom were greatly valued.

David achieved a personal milestone in his mid-30s by obtaining a civil engineering degree from Gonzaga University, leading to a fulfilling career with the Washington State Department of Transportation for over two decades.

An avid lover of the outdoors, David enjoyed going to the Pacific Ocean, hiking, fishing, camping especially at Priest Lake, traveling and photography. He was also very passionate about muscle cars and sharing this passion with his family. He cherished the times spent with his children and grandchildren hitting golf balls in the back yard at his home.

David's legacy is marked by his unwavering faith, love, and the joy he shared with his family. His testimony of Jesus Christ guided his life and touched many others. David's passing is mourned by all who knew him, but his memory and the impact of his life will continue to be celebrated.
