George Van Rossum Obituary

George Van Rossum, 78

George Arlie Van Rossum

He was born September 3, 1946, and went home to be with his Savior June 6, 2025, at the age of 78.

George was the first of 7 children born to Richard (Dick) and Bessie Eveland Van Rossum in Chadron Nebraska. The new little family moved to Idaho in December 1946 to be closer to family.

George started working at the very early age of 13 with his father logging. George later went to trade school for small engine repair and welding. After graduating from trade school, he put his talents to work. Working for many years mechanicing on anything that crossed the threshold of his garage doors.

Sandra Howell and George started dating and were married on January 7, 1978. Then made their home up Trestle Creek Road. Together George and Sandy built a wonderful life together up Trestle Creek.

During his lifetime, George volunteered for many organizations in the community. Most notably the Jaycees, Bonner Blizzard Buzzards, the Eagles & the Lions. He remained active with the Lions up until his passing. The Lions activities he loved most were the July 4th events, flag displays for businesses and Toys for Tots.

George was always ready to help family, neighbors or friends; whether it be with a strong back, food or a listening ear. He always helped with a huge heart and gigantic hug.

George and Sandy never had any children of their own, but many people consider themselves part of their family. He loved to BBQ, make cookies, homemade ice cream, and cooking. There were many Spaghetti feeds, birthdays, weddings, holidays and neighborhood get togethers at their home.

George will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by this father Dick, his mother Bessie, three siblings: Ivan, Steve and Larry. He leaves behind his loving wife Sandra, sisters Shirley Bergman, Ellen Van Rossum and Betty (Craig) Winslow.

Service will be held on September 13, 2025, at 10am at Cabinet Mountain Calvary Chapel in Clark Fork with Pastor Scott Howard officiating. Reception to follow. Please come and join us with your stories of George and to celebrate his life.
