Linda Schaffner Hayes, 79

Linda Schaffner Hayes, 79, died Thursday, August 21, 2025, at her home in Umapine, Oregon.

Linda was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on August 13, 1946, to Joseph and Dorothy (Slater) Schaffner. She attended Sandpoint schools and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1965. She earned an associate degree in licensed practical nursing at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene and worked as a nurse in Idaho and Montana.

Linda volunteered in soup kitchens and nursing homes. She enjoyed music, word puzzles, reading, cooking, camping and monthly lunches with friends. She loved animals of all kinds, especially her cats and dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Teresa Slater.

Survivors include her husband, John of Umapine; sons, Andrew Higginson of Belton, Texas, Gregory Schaffner of Boise, Idaho, and Michael Plapp of Loma Linda, California; brother, Steven Schaffner of Sandpoint; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by family and friends.

A family memorial gathering will be held at a later date.

Munsell-Rhodes in Milton-Freewater, Oregon, is handling arrangements.
