Adrian Blake Obituary

BLAKE, Adrian Valentine, MD Beloved husband of the late Mary Agnes Lloyd Blake, M.D. was born January 13, 1929, in Portrane House, County Dublin, Ireland to Stanley Blake, M.D. and Mary Elizabeth Caffrie Blake. Dr. Blake attended Ormiston High School in Malahide, Belvedere College, SJ, Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin, where he graduated in 1952. Immediately following his graduation, Dr. Blake served as the Summer Student House Officer, General Infirmary, Burton-on-Trent, a branch of St. Thomas Hospital in London. Subsequently, Dr. Blake worked as a Surgical Intern in the Meath Hospital, and St. Kevin's Hospital in Dublin, and then in the Jervis Street and St. Kevin's Hospitals as a Surgical Resident. At St. Kevin's Hospital, he met Mary A. Lloyd, M.D. They married on Dec. 28, 1960. Both Adrian and Mary worked on the Surgical Service at Boston City Hospital, Boston. Dr. Blake worked in St. Luke's Hospital, New Bedford in 1961, and from 1962-67 was Medical Director of Thom Hospital in the Fernald School, Waltham. In 1965 he opened his private practice in Family Medicine in Waltham and joined the staff of Waltham Hospital, where he served for 37 years. From 1966-2001, Dr. Blake was the physician for Regis College in Weston. One of Dr. Blake's most cherished responsibilities was as a Teaching Associate for Boston University's Medical School, mentoring approximately 60 medical students from 1990-2005 in his practice in Waltham. Dr. Blake was a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, Charles River District and the American Medical Association. Dr. Blake was an accomplished equestrian, rugby player, and field hockey player, and devoted to his family, his patients and the Blessed John XXIII National Seminary. Dr. Blake is survived by his sister Joan Manners of Herefordshire, England; his daughter, Vivienne A. Blake; his son Adrian D. Blake; daughter-in-law, Alice Kim; his son Colin I. Blake, M.D.; daughter-in-law Karen Stevens Blake; his grandchildren, Lily, Pierce and Annabel Blake, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Henry J. Burke Funeral Home, 56 Washington St., (Rte. 16), Wellesley Hills, Friday, December 9 at 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Corpus Christi Church, 39 Ash St., Auburndale at 12:00 Noon. Visiting hours Thursday evening from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Needham. Our family asks that in lieu of flowers donations in Dr. Blake's memory be made to the Blessed John XXIII National Seminary, 558 South Avenue, Weston, MA 02493, where our father spent many happy hours. As someone who had the pleasure and honor to know Dr. Blake and his beloved deceased wife Mary ( An MD as well) as someone who called on his office in Waltham and later as a patient and friend I wish my deepest sympathy to his beloved family on his passing. He was the most caring doctor I ever dealt with. He always had time for his patients. He hated that insurance companies thought they knew how a doctor should deal with a patient in 15 minutes tops. He was the best and a true leader at Waltham Hospital. Thank you Dr. Blake for your foresight, leadership and bedside manners. You were the best. Sleep Well My Friend.

Dr Blake was a true gentleman, a credit to his profession, an excellant diagniostition, a very kind and considerate man, he was a pleasure to work with for me as a nurse, I took care of countless of his patients at The Waltham Hospital, he was a wonderful primary care physician to my mother and for myself as well, he is a doctor and friend who will be missed by many, more people than any of us can imagine will miss him so very much!!!
