ADRIAN MCELWEE Obituary

McELWEE, Adrian R. Age 27, passed away on December 24, 2016 after a long illness. Adrian was the beloved son of Marilyn Levine of Brookline and Ross McElwee of Cambridge and the brother of Mariah L. McElwee, also of Brookline. His death follows a long and brave struggle with mental health issues that disrupted a truly promising life. At heart, Adrian was intensely creative, intelligent and curious, a young man most at peace amid high unspoiled mountain peaks; he spoke often and longingly of the deep calm and reverence for life that he experienced there. A memorial service will be held at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, in Brookline at 2pm on January 8, 2017. Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so to the Adrian McElwee Memorial Fund, c/o Rockland Trust Bank, 264 Washington Street, Brookline, MA 02445. Currently in process of becoming a non-profit, this Fund will be used for advancing mental health advocacy and treatment. Levine Chapels, Brookline

I am the father of Christopher Coppolo & i am so saddened to hear about such an awful matter, especially at such a young age in addition to everyone thinking he was in such great spirits. If it means anything, i too struggle much with MH issues.

So sad to hear about Adrian's passing, my thoughts are with his family and friends. I knew Adrian for a short while when we both lived in Boulder and his love for the mountains, music, and of course filmography was omnipresent and inspiring. Aloha 'oe, Adrian.

MY memory is being with you on Cape Ann. Adrian and his friend found a tv in the basement. There was no reception but they turned it on and talked all night to the sound and light of the static snow on the screen. Such a great cinematographic scene.

I can't image how hard it must be. Heartfelt wishes of peace and love to you all.

Ross, my sincerest condolences for the loss of your son. It hit me to the core.

You probably have little to no recollection but you and I have Charlotte roots - not sure if it's Eastover Elementary, AG, or Myers Park HS. Anyhow my husband and I have been in the Boston area for over 40 years (Wellesley).

My thoughts are with you.
