Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Arredondo Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

Melida and Carlos,

Just wanted to let you know that I have been thinking of you, Alex, and your family. It seems like a strange time, with the anniversary of Alex's death, Hurricane Katrina, and now Senator Kennedy's death.

I spent Saturday on Mission Hill, and got soaked shooting video of the scene outside of the Senator Kennedy's funeral. When I came home I was totally drenched and slept for three hours. I ended up with a cold, and didn't make it to the memorial service in Alex's honor on Sunday, although I wanted to be there.

My thoughts are with you, and will see you soon!

Love,

Dear Carlos and Family, In our community we create each Memorial Day a field of flags on Main Street to represent the cost of the Iraq War. This weekend, when we set up the field, we each planted a plant or flower in honor of someone. I planted flowers for Alex and will tend them throughout the summer. The field is set up and cared for until Veterans Day. I send my love until we meet again.

Alex,
Yesterday, I met your dad and thoroughly saw the memorial he has in your honor. You must know the impact you have made in so many people's lives, and yesterday, mine. I now think of you constantly and value what you offer this wonderful country with your untimely sacrifice. The devotion your dad has is priceless, and what he shares about you is so moving. You are now an angel who I think of and will thank continuously. Thank you for showing so many that you followed your dreams and did not leave loved ones without showing what an awesome individual you were. Thank you and love you!

Dear family of Lance Cpl. Arredondo,
I am a junior in high school at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High in Sudbury, MA. In my history class we are discussing 9/11 and the subsequent war in Iraq, and we were directed to the Washington Post website to look at the human side of the war.
Seeing so many valuable young people having died for their country is horribly tragic, especially when you read into their stories. Such a positive young man as Alex is a sore loss for humanity, and I can't imagine what you as his kin must be going through, having lost him. But as awful as his untimely death is, it is endlessly inspiring to know that people are so dedicated to protecting the lives of millions of people they don't even know. I know it can barely begin to help you bear this grief, but I would bet that Alex would be proud to know that he touched the life of a girl he never even knew existed. I know I would be, if I or my brother's life had done such good.
I truly am sorry for the loss of your brave Alex.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Christmas 2003
Five of us and not yet Christmas eve
Dad put up the tree and lights
There was a huge turkey well prepared
We shared gifts with eachother
And simple times we all shared
Sheila, Brian, Dad, You and me
The doggies loved the turkey too
Gifts surprised us all, we could see
Especially the gold ring you gave me
It says in Spanish Amor
The word love, just like that
I slipped it on my finger at once
I wish I could bring that day and you back
I thank God and you for my ring
I know you truly loved me as StepMom
When I look at my hand
I remember you, my beautiful sun...

Alex,
You'll never be forgotten. After recently returning from Iraq in August 2006, I could now realize what you experienced. Your sacrifice will never be taken for granted. Although I didn't know you, I know what you went through. May your family continue to find comfort and support with the Lord, family and friends. I lost a good friend, a brother, a fellow Corpsman, "Doc" Zachary M. Alday while out in Iraq on June 9, 2006. I was so mad, devastated, and numb... As a Navy Corpsman, I wished there was something I could have done to keep him alive. I think about that incident each and everyday and wish I could have prevented what happened. I have now tried to find comfort by contacting his family and visiting them in Georgia. That visit really helped. It helped connect me with the family of someone I hold dear to my heart. He had a wonderful family, I now consider them my extended family, as I should...he was my brother. Continue to watch over our fellow Marine's and Corpsmen that are still in Iraq and Afghanistan. You'll never be forgotten Alex.

Brian Cunningham

May 13, 2005

My deepest condolances to the Arredondo family. I have many great memories with the Arredondo family. I met Alex's family through his younger brother Brian when we were both in elementry school. Alex was a good friend. He was always the bigger cool brother you wanted to do stuff with. When they lived in Norwood I would go over there house all of the time. Although I didn't see the family as much when they moved to Randolph, I still saw Alex in high school because we both went to Blue Hills, and he was one grade ahead of me. Whenever I saw Alex he always had a smile and something funny to say. I miss him very much, and still think about him often. Alex is a Hero and none of us will ever forget him.
