ALFRED SOLOMBRINO Obituary

SOLOMBRINO, Alfred "Slushie" Age 95, of Essex, passed away surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, December 18. Born in Chelsea, he was the loving husband of 73 years to Adelva Solombrino; and was the son to Carmine and Jenney (Sarno) Solombrino. Alfred was employed for 52 years in management, at Daniels Printing in Everett, MA. He was a member of the Naval Reserve and was then drafted into the Army in 1953. He was assigned to the 31st "Dixie" Artillery Division. As a lifelong musician, he also held the position of "Battalion Bugler" and worked closely with his commanding General to conduct ceremonial duties. While at Revere High School, he formed the "Al Kray" Dance band, which began his musical career. Throughout his life, he served as the manager of the IC Reveries Drum and Bugle Corps and the North Star Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also the President of the Massachusetts Drum and Bugle Corps Judges Association and was inducted in 2010 to the Drum and Bugle Corps Hall of Fame. He spent his life working with the Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Boston. Alfred is survived by his two sons, Steven Solombrino and his wife, Cheryl of Wilmington, Scott Solombrino and his wife, Maryanne Brazzo of Essex; three grandchildren, Anthony Solombrino and his wife, Jenna of Ipswich, Zachary Solombrino and his fiancé, Jannina of South Hamilton and Siobhan O'Sullivan of South Philadelphia, PA; and many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents; he was predeceased by one sister, Marie Solombrino. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Paul's Church, 50 Union Street, South Hamilton, on Tuesday, December 31, at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, BEVERLY, on Monday, December 30, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Burial will be at Hamilton Cemetery. The Solombrino family requests only white flowers to be contributed. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com
