ALLISON SMITH Obituary

Smith, Allison Of Portsmouth, NH, entered eternal life on Thursday, February 12th, 2015. A devoted wife, daughter, sister, and friend, Allison died tragically in an auto accident on February 12th in Milton, NH. She was 31. Her spirit is carried on by her wife, Lucy Pollard of Portsmouth, NH, her loving parents, Renee and Laurence Smith of Harrisonville, MO, and sister, Lauren Pedersen (Matt) of Ankeny, IA, two nephews, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. She is the granddaughter of J. Harold and Mildred Smith of Harrisonville, MO. Allison was born in Harrisonville, MO, and graduated from Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City. She earned a BA in environmental policy at Dartmouth, where she was on the varsity cross country and track teams and an enthusiastic member of the Dartmouth Outing Club. She also earned an MS in environmental law at Vermont Law School and would soon have completed an MBA at Babson College. An accomplished marathoner and triathlete, Allison loved the outdoors and was also an avid hiker, biker and swimmer. She completed the Boston Marathon in 2011, qualifying for the New York Marathon. She was a devoted friend who lit up the lives of others with her warmth, caring and infectious energy. Allison worked as an Analyst with the New England States Committee on Electricity (NESCOE). Before joining NESCOE, she worked at Synapse Energy Economics and Anbaric Transmission. At NESCOE, which represents the collective interests of the six New England states, Allison focused on forward-looking clean energy issues like solar power. She cared deeply about the long term climate implications of our energy choices and had a unique ability to help people understand such a complicated subject. Her colleagues will remember her intelligence and the good cheer she brought to her work. When there was unbridled laughter around a conference room table, it was usually Allison's doing. Allison's life will be celebrated in a memorial service at Harvard Memorial Church, Cambridge, MA, on February 19th at 11:00 am. A memorial service at Wesleyan Chapel of the United Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS, will follow on February 21st at 2:00 pm. (livestream at www.cor.org/online) Family visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Allison's hometown of Harrisonville, MO, on Friday, February 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Private interment will occur at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dartmouth Outing Club to support a project that will honor Allison. Contributions may also be given to the Allison W. Smith Memorial at Pembroke Hill School recognizing student achievement in character, academics, and sportsmanship.

I send my sincere condolences to Lucy and to Allison's parents.
Allison and I served on the Vermont Law School Alumni Board together. I so admired her commitment to life! She could and did anything she set her mind to doing. She was admired by colleagues on the Board at VLS and too, by so many faculty. Allison left her mark on each of us. She will be missed dearly.

I ran with Allison at Dartmouth for two years (she was two years behind me), and I am terribly sad to hear about her sudden passing. Allison had so much energy and enthusiasm, and I was thrilled to see news of her recent marriage and continuing outdoor adventures via social media channels. It is truly shocking to hear this news. To this day I admire Allison's irrepressible spirit and idealism and her willingness to stand up for what she believed in and live by her values. Even though we had not spoken in years, I will miss hershe was a person one doesn't forget. My deepest condolences to Lucy and to Allison's parents and sister.

I knew Allison from high school cross country and track and field. Although I attended a different high school, Allison was always smiling and inviting me to join her and her friends on group runs. I wish I had stayed in touch as we graduated and left for college. My heart goes out to her wife, family and friends. She will be remembered.

Although I barely knew Allison, I will never forget her smile nor her friendliness. She continues to be in my thoughts and prayers. Yesterday, a priest said Mass for the repose of her soul, and I offered a Divine Mercy chaplet and Holy Communion for her. May she rest in peace, and may her family and friends be consoled in their grief.

Allison was my teammate on the Dover women's hockey team. She was such a positive person with a "light up your day" smile. She was a great teammate who would happily play anywhere. I am so sorry this happened and so sorry for your loss. She will be missed.

Allison was in my Capstone class at Babson. She, in fact, sat right next to me. Although, I never got the chance to really know her, she was always enthusiastic and enjoyable to be around in class. Her wit and intelligence are some of the many characteristics I will remember her by. My thoughts go out to her family.

As neighbors of Lucy and Allison here in Portsmouth, we want to send all our love to Lucy and the rest of Allison's family in this time of great sorrow. We were so happy when such nice people moved in next door just a year and a half ago. Meeting Allison and Lucy while out walking always left us smiling and grateful to have them as neighbors. Allison will sorely missed by all for her smile, enthusiasm for life and great spirit. Lucy, we are so very sorry for your loss. Your love for each other was obvious and uplifting. We are holding you close in our hearts...

My daughter has had the great pleasure of having Lucy as her coach and teacher at Berwick. During that time she had gotten to know Allison through Lucy and always has spoken so highly of her. Would come home after their team pasta dinner and talk about what a great person Allison was and how funny and nice. She came to so many of the field hockey games, no matter how far away they were to support Lucy and the team. She was such a great role model and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Our deepest condolences go out to Lucy and family.

Dear Lucy, and the Smith Family
Words cannot convey how deeply my heart is aching for all of you. Please accept my sincere condolences for this unfathomable tragedy and heartbreaking loss.

My daughter has the pleasure of being a student of Miss Pollard. Not a day went by that she didn't mention how much she loves her as an instructor. Miss Pollard inspires, educates and elevates as I know her wife Allison has shared with so many. My daughter shared that Miss Pollard keeps a picture of her wedding with Allison as her screensaver. I'm thankful my daughter was a recipient of the joy the two have together. They are such inspiring role models for young men and women of today with their education and enthusiam for life. We are saddened that such a beautiful soul is no longer able to be here on earth. We are saddened for the loss and pain for all of the family. Please accept our sincere condolences and know how much Allison through her world has touched our world. Peace and healing to all.

This world is a darker place without Allison. She was kind, thoughtful, adorable, so so smart, a whirling ball of energy. I feel fortunate to have known her. She was the kind of person that lit up the room when she walked in. My heart goes out to Lucy, her parents, and her many friends. She will be in my heart always.
