To Andy's family,
I was so sad to hear of Andy's death. I worked with him at the Brigham in the ED about 12 years ago. He was an outstanding doctor, smart, kind and compassinate. I was a fairly new nurse practitioner when I worked with him and I learned so much from him- he was my favorite attending. I am so sorry for your great loss and you are in my prayers.

I had the privilege to work as a nurse practitioner for a few years at BWH ED with Andy. He is truly unforgettable. Saying he was so kind is an understatement. As busy as he was in the ED-running around in his sneakers, he would always be available for consultation with patience and kindness. My thoughts and prayers to his beloved family and the family of co-workers at BWH.

Andy had so much life in him, and gave so much to so many. It's inconceivable that such a wonderful, smart, giving, dedicated, fun, good person could be taken from us while just going about his daily routine. I'm an epidemiologist who's worked with Andy over the last 6 years or so. I learned an incredible amount from him, admired him, and considered him a friend. I'm sorry for your loss.

Dear Jill, Emma, Jordan and Elie
I am so saddened for your tragedy of Andrew. I still remember when you and Andrew were getting ready for Emma`s Bat Mitzvah. We all met in slater and went over many different ways to do things from food selection to dj`s. You and Andrew decorated the social hall at TI and it was better than any party planner I`ve worked with in years. Both of you were soo exhausted after that, but when the party started and R&B Dj~s started with the kids song requests and games, it was fabulous. The food was absolutely delicious from El Panino`s. I used them for many events at TI after that. Just working for you and Andy at that time, I saw the love and respect you and Andy had for each other. I`ll miss seeing Andy stopping by the cafe at TI asking me how i`m doing. He was always so concerned about my well being. I really appreciated that.
He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. My thoughts are with you and all of your family. Cherish the beautiful memories of his life.

Dear Jill, Emma, Jordan, and Elie,
Sam and I are so saddened and want you to know you are in our thoughts. Over the years, as Sam and Elie were on various Little League or basketball teams together, Andy was always there with a word of encouragement for Sam as well as for Elie; his kindness in this small but not insignificant way always impressed me and I know was a nice thing for Sam. We are so sorry for your loss. Amy Meeker and Sam Haas

I am still in disbelief that this could be true. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I remember from our younger days how wonderful it was to see two people find the loves of their lives. Especially two such amazing people as you and Andy. I am so touched by the depth of his contribution to this world, most importantly his deep love for you and his children. My deepest, most heartfelt condolences to Andy's loved ones. I had the privilege to be his attending when he was a resident at Boston City Hospital where he was not only a brilliant, caring physician but a wonderful role model for us all. After not seeing Andy for a number of years, it was great to meet last January in Washington, DC, where he served on the faculty of a program I attended. Typically, Andy was genuinely warm, made me feel special, and unselfishly offered to help a colleague of mine. He leaves a wonderful lasting legacy and memory of a truly wonderful human being. My thoughts and prayers go out to Andy and his family.

Above all else, during the nearly 15 years I knew Andy, he was the most loving, devoted, caring father he could possibly be. He adored his family with every fiber of his being, and it was that love that bonded me so closely with him, and all the other Dads who shared his passion. He was brilliant in medicine, teaching, and research, but nothing surpassed his unwavering affection for his children. I hope his kindness, integrity, and tenderness will forever bring warmth to your hearts. He truly was as loving as a person could be. Please accept my most sincere condolences for your profoundly painful loss.

To The Family of Andy McAfee: I was deeply saddended to hear of the tragic death of Andy. I was the Admin Dir of the Emergency Dept at BWH and worked with Andy for 6 years until 2008. He was a great man and doctor who always had a positive attitude.
My mother passed away last fall and although I no longer worked with him, Andy took the time to send me a sympathy card. His expression of sympathy meant a lot to me and I want to share this with you as another example of what a wonderful person Andy was. I am so sorry for your loss and will remember Andy in my prayers.
Sincerely,

Dear Jill,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Andy was such a wonderful person. He could do more good in one week than most people could do in an entire year. At the end of each day if we ask ourselves, "Did I make a difference today?" What could we say? Andy made a huge difference. The people that Andy helped are too numerous to count (but you're going to be hearing from some of them now!) Andy is an inspiration to us all.

I worked with Andy for quite some time, mostly over the phone, from the Faulkner. He bailed me out of many jams over the years by taking transfers and by otherwise being generally helpful. There is no way to really console a family after a completely unexplainable, shocking, and profound loss like this. It's impossible. All I can say is that my wife and I are deeply sorry, and that you will all be in our family's prayers.

There are no words to express the shock and sadness of Andy’s untimely passing.
I had worked with Andy while he was at i3 and we were all like family. I have so many fond memories of him, one was when the company was sponsoring flu shots and Andy decided we ALL needed to get vaccinated. So he gathered us all up and literally marched us all down and stood there while we got them. He was a very passionate man, about his family and his work. Before he left i3 I walked into his office and said, “What will we do without you”, he said “you have my cell phone number, call me anytime you need me”…
I will miss his smile, his laugh and his dedication to work and friends.
Please except my deepest sympathies.
