ARTHUR BREAULT Obituary

BREAULT, Arthur J., Jr. Arthur J. Breault, Jr., 79, passed away on August 16, 2018, surrounded by his children, Brendan and Allison, and his companion, Patricia Hamby. Although Alzheimer's disease robbed him of his quick wit and keen insight over the last several years, he never lost his dignified character or his calm and gentle demeanor. Art's life was dedicated to his family: his departed wife Margie; their three children, Brendan, Allison, and their departed son, Brian; his daughter- and son-in-law, Kore and Pieter; and his grandchildren, Catherine, Margaret, Caroline, Mia and Willem. He was blessed by the love of his companion, Patricia Hamby, and his sister, Kathleen Musso, and their families. He was born on July 18, 1939 in South Boston, the loving son of Catherine Coughlin and Arthur Breault. He was a proud graduate of Boston College High School and Boston College. After serving his country as a Major in the U.S. Marine Corps, he earned his law degree from Suffolk University Law School while working as an auditor for Texaco. He began his career as a tax attorney with the Internal Revenue Service where he served for many years as a branch chief. He later joined Touche Ross (now Deloitte) and was elected to the partnership in 1984. Art also proudly served as a director on the board of PHI, Inc., a helicopter services company in Lafayette, Louisiana. Throughout his career, he was dedicated to helping others and worked tirelessly to resolve conflicts equitably, with a calm, respectful professionalism. The joys of his professional life included mentoring colleagues and the strong friendships he formed through his work. Art's kindness, optimism, and courage have been an inspiration to his friends and family. Even in his final days, he lived his life in accordance with the Jesuits' teaching to be "a man for others". A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Gate of Heaven Church in South Boston, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 Randolf Street, Suite 225, Arlington, Virginia 22203 or the Brain Health Center at Emory University, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400, Atlanta, Georgia 30322. Abby, Eric and I were heartbroken over the receipt of this very bad news. Our dearly beloved Arthur was the best man at our wedding; and he will always be my over 50 year best friend. What's more, he has been a surrogate brother to me since 1966, over a half century. And, as a bonus, he also stood up as a surrogate uncle to our son, Eric!

Surely, no words could ever be adequate to fully describe him as a human being. Nevertheless, please be patient as I try imperfectly to herald the shining light of this beautiful man who dwelled among us. In human terms, he was a truly great man! Yet, in theological terms, he has, more importantly, been a remarkable messenger of the Christian Gospel.

As a Jewish person, I am proud to say that Arthur J. Breault was like everybody's caring neighborhood priest. In that capacity, Abby, Eric and I are among the many people who were privileged to be touched by Father Breault who everyday spread God's goodness as a disciple called by example in plain sight to live the 10 Commandments.

Always standing tall, like the Marine Major he was, Abby, Eric and I also witnessed him consciously spreading the love of his savior Jesus Christ among all people within his reach high and low alike.

An eternal candle of love for him will always burn brightly in our hearts.

On several occasions throughout the years Art afforded me the privilege of assisting his clients in the resolution of state and local tax disputes and, in turn, I called upon Art from time to time for his advice and insights which he was always ready to share.
