BARBARA BENES Obituary

BENES, Barbara Frances Lytle On June 21st, Barbara left this life doing something she loved; swimming, in the waters off Wellfleet, a place she had cherished for over five decades.Barbara (Bobbie) was one of a kind. Vibrant, sassy and independent. Funny, smart and stylish. At 82, she lived life fully and on her own terms. She loved her family and friends fiercely and was an unfaltering source of support and encouragement to all of them. She was full of energy, always on the move and ready and willing to try anything new. When her beloved husband Ed Benes died in 1994, she pulled up roots from Cleveland, Ohio where she grew up and had raised her family, to begin a new phase of her life in Wellfleet. She enjoyed the beauty of the Cape and relished the friends she made there. Four years ago, she announced her Cape time was over and she was on to Arlington to be closer to her family. She embraced her new home, bustling through the streets of her neighborhood walking her adored dog, Ollie. Her children Betsy Paradise, of Chardon Ohio, Martha Benes and husband Sean Ward of Arlington, Ma, and Matthew Benes and wife Judy, of Charlottesville, Va, will miss her dearly and feel grateful for having had such a loving and funny mom. She is loved and will be missed by her grandchildren: Adam and Brian Sherwin, Sarah Paradise, Katherine and Conor Ward, and Edward, Jane and Luke Benes. She is survived by her brother, Tuffy Lytle, his wife Bizzy, her brother- in-law and long time pal, John Snavely, brother-in-law Robin Benes and his wife Kaye, sister-in-law, Nancy Benes and all her nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends, especially the Larner family. Please, join us to celebrate Barbara's life on Monday, August 6th at noon at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main St., Wellfleet, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Partners In Health or, of course, to the Obama campaign. For obituary, directions or to send a condolence visit www.keefefuneralhome.com

I didn't know Barbara either, but I was also impressed with the kind, thoughtful and playful words of her obit. She sounded like a fun person with a loving family. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Barbara was a friend and a neighbor in Wellfleet. She would often pull her Subaru over to the side of West Main Street if she saw me working in my yard, and we would spend a few minutes "catching up". She was an inspiration for me, and I will truly miss her .
My thoughts are with her family at this time.

I did not have the privilege of knowing this fine woman, but I wanted her family to know how much her obit moved me. I loved reading all the great words that described B. I also try very hard to be positive, vibrant and loving. She sounds like the kind of woman that not only I could have learned from, but who would be a great friend. What a loss for your family. Take her spirit of life and keep her attitude going!!!

Barbara brightened up the exercise class at Arl. seniors. I saw Wellfleet through her eyes and wanted to keep sharing it this summer. She had a rare sparkle and is missed.
