BERNARD O'REILLY

O'REILLY, Bernard Passed away, on June 19, 2025, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life Service will take place from 4-8pm, on Friday, June 27, at Magni Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St., NEWTON, followed by a Funeral Mass on Saturday, June 28, at 10:30am, in Our Lady's Church, 573 Washington St., Newton. Bernard O'Reilly was born on October 30, 1936 in Bunnoe, County Cavan Ireland. He came to Boston in 1958 and worked for over 50 years in the autobody industry and as the owner of O'Reilly's Autobody, since 1980. Bernard devoted much of his free time to the Boston Gaelic Athletic Association and the Irish Cultural Center in Canton. Bernard initially played Gaelic football with the Gaelic Athletic Association, which promoted the sport in the area. He later served the association in multiple ways, as a coach, referee and ultimately as the honorary president, where he worked tirelessly to bring the sport of Gaelic football to the United States. Bernard is survived by his daughter, Margaret O'Reilly Raymond of Norwood; his son, Bernard M. O'Reilly of Newton; his two grandchildren, Jennifer Harper and Dean Raymond; his great-grandchildren, Logan Harper; as well as nephew, Gary O'Reilly; and nieces, Una Egan and Noreen Lyons; and his sister-in-law, Bridie O'Reilly. He was pre-deceased by his wife Joan and his son Thomas Michael and brothers James, Sean and Peter O'Reilly. Bernard will be remembered for his tremendous work ethic and the legacy that he leaves behind in the autobody industry and the Gaelic Athletic Association where Gaelic football thrives in the area to this day.
