My sincere sympathy to Bernices family. A precious person that was a part of Girards history. Bernice gave me all my "baby shots" and took good care of a lot of Girards population when she worked for Dr. Finney. She was an amazing woman. Barb Pierson

To some of us, some of us who knew her closely (I and my family lived next door to her for years in Girard), she'll always be 'Tac'. That's what Tommy called her; that's the name we all used.
Tac had more spirit in her than an entire army with banners. She had more class in her than a lot of folk who live(d) in metropolitan areas, not in some small, downstate town where jazz, fine art, good wine, and manners are often quite rare.
In the late '90's Tac and I had our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners together, sitting in the dining-room of the old Thompson mansion in Girard. Outside the windows stood the large kennel-pin where Tommy'n'Tac's dogs played, many years earlier. Tac loved dogs, but in the last years adopted an all-white cat she grew to love.
A lot of people grew up with Tac as the nurse for Doc Finney; the nurse who wore the standard white uniform and carried herself with dignity.
She was class all the way.
No doubt those who attended her at Sunrise grew weary of her hard-nosed ways. But she earned the respect she demanded.
Her life was heroic, important, meaningful, and rich.
I love you, Tac. Thank you for so many, many years of warmth and humor, friendship and memories I shall carry to my own grave.
I recall on Saturday nights, years ago... Tommy'n'Tac and my folks would cook cheese fon du, drink adult beverages, play jazz LP's, joke and laugh and tell stories, until the wee hours of the morning. Them Tac and my mom would stand outside under the stars in Girard and yell, "Hey all you dummies, wake up!"
Rest in peace, Bernice.
