MISTRETTA, Brady Alexander Age 31, of Cambridge, MA, passed away suddenly, on July 6, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. He was born on January 14, 1993 in Portsmouth, NH, to Keith Mistretta and Joan Fiori Mistretta. Brady was a devoted and caring sibling and is survived by his two brothers, David Mistretta and Neil Mistretta; sister, Jenny Mistretta; and grandfather, Augustine J. Fiori; as well as many admirers among uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, co-workers, scientists, teammates and friends in life. Brady attended grade school at both the Oyster River Public School District and Portsmouth Christian Academy, graduating from Oyster River High School in 2011. His sharp mind, strong faith and love for the sciences stood out among his teachers. When not deep in study, Brady could be found running joyously through the woods of NH and draining jump shots with his AAU travel basketball team. He was a fierce competitor both on the basketball court and on the track and carried himself with a level of humility, determination and grace that was both hard to match and will sorely be missed. He attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, where he excelled as both a D1 cross country and track athlete and academic student. He graduated in 2015 as an Honors Scholar from the School of Health Sciences with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, cum laude. As a three season athlete at Liberty, his contribution on the track was impressive in races such as the 5k and 10k. After Liberty, he continued his education at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT, graduating with a Masters degree in Microbiology in 2018. He continued to excel as a runner as well, logging a personal best in the 5k for the Huskies. Upon completing his degree at UConn, Brady settled in Boston and dedicated much of his time to his work as a gifted scientist. He will be remembered for his remarkable skills in gene sequencing as a Scientist at companies such as 2Seventybio (Regeneron), where he played a key role in the Analytical Development department. Brady's work in gene sequencing was integral in improving the lives of those battling cancer. Beyond his varied accomplishments and accolades, Brady will be remembered for his soft smile, dry sense of humor, love for the outdoors and unwavering work ethic.
