BRUCE MCKENNA Obituary

MCKENNA, Bruce Andrew Husband of Janice McKenna for 31 yrs., passed away suddenly on Oct.9, 2014 after a long illness. He grew up in Winchester, MA & lived in Lake Forest Park, Seattle, WA. He was the son of Dorothy M. McKenna of Reading, MA & the late LCDR Warren E. McKenna. He leaves behind a sister, Maureen McIsaac & her husband, Bill, of Reading, a brother, Brian McKenna & his wife Georgia of Winchester, MA a sister, Dee McKenna, & her husband, Rick Burgess of Rocklin, CA. as well as several cherished nieces & nephews. He was 60 years old and had been a faculty member of Seattle Central College since 2004. He earned a bachelor's degree from Yale and a doctorate in English and American Literature from Brandeis University. His life's work and passion was teaching; he found great satisfaction in inspiring his students with a love of literature. He was beloved by his many students and will be remembered for his irrepressible sense of humor. An outstanding athlete, Bruce played varsity basketball at Yale for 4 years. He attended Boston College High and was named as a Boston City Conference All-Star. Then, in his senior year of high school, he was selected for the Mass All Star Basketball Team. Services for Bruce were held on Oct. 17 in Seattle. Remembrances to Bruce may be made to the Bruce McKenna Memorial Scholarship, Seattle Central Foundation 1701 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122.

Wow!! Just finding out about Bruce. I have not seen him since we played ball together. It was always a pleasure. He was the kind of guy you looked forward to hanging with. May he RIP.

Remember Bruce playing B-Ball at Ginn Field, with Bob Bigelow, Justin O'Connor, Peter Dinatale, the Wolfe Brothers, my brother Bill and many others. Boy could Bruce play. One of the Boys from Ginn Park, who brought his game to the next level. BC High & Yale.
