Me again, four years later. I learned of his death four years ago and last saw Carlos in 1967. It's funny how strongly I still feel about my old friend. I just reread some of the memories posted here, and I am heartened to see he remained as good a friend and as solid a human being for his whole life. My memories of him are all happy. my only regret is that I never got to hang out with him as an alleged adult. I suspect my life would have been a little richer, bolder and more fun if I had. Rest in peace, Carlos. You are one of the guys.

I had lost touch with Carlos a while ago and just found out that he's gone. I was so saddened and shocked to hear the news. We both lived in the South End in the bad old days. Learned how to fix up houses and had lots of laughs together. Carlos was a guy who never hesitated to be there for a friend. I will miss him.

Carlos and were friends in high school. He was a year younger and way more cool. He introduced me to Lynn Young, who ran The Forum Coffeehouse in Hartford. For a year or so, I read my poetry there on weekends, between folk singers, to a combination of fledgling hippies and the last of the beatniks. Never would have had that experience without Carlos. My most hip friend. We acted in "Arsenic & Old Lace" together in school, I played the Boris Karloff role, Carlos the Peter Lorre part. Great fun. We lost touch after I graduated, and though I looked for him from time to time over the years, it wasn't until computers & Facebook that I found him again. We wrote back and forth a little. Sounds like he turned into an extraordinary man. Sorry I missed knowing him all those years, but glad we had that re-connection. I have never not been fond of my old friend. Wish we could have met again face to face, but... I am very sad to learn of his passing. I send belated sympathy to his family and loved ones for their loss.

I loved how Carlos loved the people here in JP. I especially love how he wanted to light up the community around Christmas time. Let's continue this!

Carlos so loved this community and everybody in it. All of us loved him so much in return.
One of my best memories of Carlos is when he initiated the holiday lights campaign on Centre St -- it was decades ago. He was so excited about the idea, and his passion rubbed of on all of us. Carlos, I miss you lots, still to this day. Your spirit has always embodied what I love most about JP.

Carlo and I were close friends from Emerson. He was there for my German Shepherd when my dog was injured, our dogs use to run together. He was always there when I called. My husband and I considered him a very close friend. I have been thinking of contacting him for years. I remember his trips out west and coming back with beautiful wood, redwood. My condolences go out to his family. Carlos was a special guy, I could never forget him.

I remember Carlos at Emerson College. We worked together in the media center. He was like a best friend.

Carlos was an extraordinary man who loved his daughter and Shelley with deep conviction. His sense of humor always made us giggle and his support for all things relating to "justice and fairness" was unwavering. He was a stand up guy and Susan & I will miss him.
Our heartfelt love and condolences go to Shelley, Elizabeth and to those who loved him. We are sorry to not be in town and able to lend our support in person on this solemn day.

Shelley, Sal and I sent our heartfelt condolences to you. Carlos was such an integral part of the JP community, and his tireless efforts on behalf of those of us on Sumner Hill will not be forgotten. This is a great loss. Let us know if we can be of assistance in any way. With warm wishes, Danielle and Sal

I will no longer be able to look forward to those erudite calls from Carlos about some pressing community matter, but I will be able to reflect fondly upon those past chats. His letters to the editor were always purposefully spiced with a thoughtful twist and notion. Shelley, my thoughts are with you.

I am missing Carlos so much already. I often went to our business meetings just to be with him. He never failed to speak his mind. He took the time to recognize everyone, always. I loved his mischievous side used to make a point. Carlos very much so made a difference in JP and the world. A great man he was and he will surely be missed by many. Paul Iantosca

I was terribly saddened to hear of Carlos' passing. Although I knew him for a relatively short time, I quickly grew to love and appreciate his kind heart and generous spirit. I will miss him very much (and I will especially miss him stopping by my store and leaving fresh eggs on my counter, usually without saying anything more than "still warm" and giving me a smile). His passing is a huge loss to JP as he was a passionate steward of our neighborhood. Carlos DID make a difference!
