CARMEN M. TORRES

1955 - 2022

TORRES, Carmen M. Mother, Sister, Wife, Friend, Creative Disruptor. Age 66, of Boston, MA, passed away, April 25, 2022. She was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, on July 21, 1955, but called Brooklyn home until she moved to Boston in 1973. Carmen was a pioneer in Boston's school system. Amongst her many accomplishments, she was the founder of the Health Careers Pathway at Brighton High School and the pre-pharmacy program at Fenway High School. She was the founding assistant headmaster and then co-headmaster of Boston Arts Academy. After retiring, she became a clinical faculty member at Boston University. Later, she co-founded and co-directed the Perrone-Sizer Institute for Creative Leadership first at the Center for Artistry and Scholarship and currently at Hale Education. Carmen was a friend, mentor, second mother, education ambassador, and helping hand to endless lives in and around the city of Boston and beyond. She was married to Juan Radhames Peña. She is survived by her son, Radhy Alejandro Peña, and daughter, Yaritza Carmen Peña. The Carmen M. Torres scholarship has been established at Hale Education to support Latinx emerging leaders.
