CHARLES COOMBS Obituary

COOMBS, Charles B. IV Of Sandwich, MA, passed away unexpectedly at his home, on June 24, 2024. Born on August 15, 1957 in Boston, MA to Charles and Mona (Buck) Coombs, III, Charlie was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be remembered for his quick wit, dedication to his family and friends and love of the outdoors. A native of Dedham, MA, Charlie graduated from Dedham High School and went on to earn a BS Degree from UMass Amherst. Before settling in Sandwich, MA, he and his wife lived in Danielson, CT, where they made many lifelong friends. He worked for many years at Boise Cascade and often said how fortunate he was to love his job which gave him access to fun experiences with wonderful people. First and foremost, Charlie was a devoted family man. His face lit up with joy at the very mention of his little granddaughter, Nora, and he frequently spoke proudly of his wife and son. He loved spending time with extended family at his father's home in Pocasset, MA. Charlie thrived in the outdoors, whether fly fishing or ice cutting with friends in the deep woods of Maine. Among his favorite activities were running road races and hiking with his brother, Doug. They would traverse a different New England mountain each time, granting him membership in the New England 4000 Footer Club. As a spiritual man who valued community service and brotherhood, Charlie was a prominent member of the Massachusetts Freemasons and over the years, held many Masonic roles in several Lodges, including the Grand Lodge. Charlie was active in the Aleppo Shriners Hospital as well as the Scottish Rite, Valley of Southeastern, MA. He was the recipient of the prestigious Joseph Warren Masonic Award for distinguished service. Charlie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pamela-Sue; their son, Charles B. Coombs, V; and his wife, Kristin; and their daughter, Nora, all of Winthrop, MA. He also leaves his father, Charles B. Coombs, III of Pocasset, MA; a sister, Lauren Murphy and her husband, Harry of Boston, MA; brothers, Doug and his wife, Dawn of Abington, MA and William and his husband, Randy of Boston, MA; sister-in-law, Christie Coombs of Abington, MA; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Charlie was predeceased by his mother, Mona; and brother, Jeffrey. A Wake and Masonic Funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, in SANDWICH, MA, with a Service to follow at St. John's Episcopal Church, 159 Main St., Sandwich, MA 02563. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Lodge, in Sandwich, MA or the Jeff Coombs Memorial Foundation. Checks can be made payable to DeWitt Clinton Lodge community fund or brotherhood fund, P.O. Box 342, Sandwich, MA 02563 or the Jeff Coombs Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 463, Abington, MA 02351.

There are no words to express the void left behind by someone like Charlie. He lived life to the fullest and was a proud husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. We were honored and proud to have been able to call him a dear friend. We will always reflect upon our many fun times with a lot of shared laughs and great memories. We truly wish there had been time for many, many more.
The list goes on and on of the many admirable attributes of this incredible man. We were blessed to have shared the times that we did with him and will truly miss Charlie forever.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, especially his loving wife Pam, who was his forever love, companion and partner in life.
May you find comfort during these incredibly difficult days ahead knowing how much Charlie was loved and so are you!
