CHARLES GEILICH Obituary

GEILICH, Charles "Chick" July 19, 1929 – July 31, 2025 Adventurer, entrepreneur and devoted family man, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, July 31, at 96 years young, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, surrounded by his family. Chick was born July 19, 1929 and raised in Brockton, MA. He graduated from Vermont Academy, then Dartmouth College with a degree in chemical engineering, followed by business management at Harvard University. Following service in the Coast Guard during the Korean War, he became executive vice president of the family business, the Geilich Tanning Company. After a first career with the tannery, he began a second career as a serial entrepreneur, starting with the first of what would become many successful business ventures, Recycling Industries. Chick lived his life fearlessly and with gusto. He was a gorgeous skier, a member of the National Ski Patrol and a founding ski instructor at Mittersill in Franconia Notch, NH, where he shared his love of skiing with his children and countless others. Chick was also an avid sailor and as comfortable on the ocean as he was on land. He earned his sea captain license and set sail on his 50-foot sailboat, Summer Snow, with his wife, Nina, spending two years exploring the Bahamas and the Caribbean while welcoming friends and family aboard for unforgettable adventures. Combining his business acumen with a lifetime passion for golf, Chick was the visionary and driving force to transform the Quincy, MA quarries into what is now a 27-hole stunning Boston golf course, Granite Links at Quarry Hills. Along with many other projects, Chick's dedication to community led him to oversee the construction of the Jewish Community Center in Sharon, MA, a lasting testament to his leadership and generosity. Chick invested much of his time and energy in serving community and helping others. He was beloved by all who knew him for his devotion and caring, making life-long friends everywhere he went. Nothing was more important to Chick than his family, whom he doted on up until his passing. Chick was predeceased by his wife, Nina Hall Geilich. He is survived by his children, Wendy Capland and her husband, Chris Michaud, Michael Geilich and his wife, Cindy Mahler and Lisa and Jeff Gjoen; five grandchildren, Andrew Capland, Abigail Galusha, Benjamin Geilich, Jared Geilich and Eric Gjoen; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron Hall Capland and Mia Josephine Capland. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 5, at Temple Judea, 4311 Hood Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, at 11:00 am. The Service will be live-streamed at https://boxcast.tv/channel/tei9zgzd1kbg4kymehgq, followed by Shiva at The Devonshire, 350 Devonshire Way, Palm Beach Gardens, from 4-5:30 PM, in the Cambridge room. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to express sympathy through a gift, Chick has requested that you consider planting a tree in his memory.

We honor the memory of Charles "Chick" Geilich. He was a member of Temple Israel in Brockton for many years before the temple moved to Easton to become Temple Israel South Shore. He was an honorary member there and at Kol Tikvah and provided thoughtful guidance, direction and support during the merge with klal in 2010. Randy O´Brien cherished her annual chats with his wife Nina of blessed memory and with him from time to time. And certainly the guidance he provided.

My family were neighbors with Chick and Nina for many years in Brockton. Chick employed me fo a summer at the Geilich tannery in Taunton, Mass. Both Nina and Chick were most caring for my mother, a widower who lived across the street. May they Rest In Peace.
