CHARLES MCGILLICUDDY Obituary

McGILLICUDDY, Charles C. Former newsman and retired public relations executive passed away peacefully Friday, April 1, 2022 at his home in Sandwich, MA. Born March 1, 1932 in Waltham, MA, he was the son of the late John C. and Florence (Hagen) McGillicuddy and brother of the late John E. McGillicuddy. Charles "Charlie" was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and Boston University, Class of 1957, with a B.S. in Journalism. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Shirley Ann Butler of Lowell. Married in 1954, he spent the following 65 years inseparable from his best friend, raising four children together.

Charlie served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He began his reporting career with the News Tribune in his native Waltham and served 10 years with the Associated Press in Boston and Portland, Maine before becoming a public relations counselor. Charlie retired in 1995 as director of Financial Communications for John Hancock Financial Services after 25 years with the company.

Together with his bride, Charlie enjoyed exploring the world, especially France along with Germany, Switzerland, Egypt and Cyprus. Upon his retirement, they moved to Cape Cod where they enjoyed life and loved working together in their extensive gardens. Being a former sports writer, Charlie was an avid Patriots fan and enjoyed all Boston sports. Charlie was very active with his friends, new and old, in several lunch meetings including ROMEO - Retired Old Men Eating Out.

Charlie will be lovingly missed by his children, son Sean and wife Jeannette (LeBlanc) of Easton, MA; daughter Siobhan and husband Christopher Foster of Ivanhoe, NC, son Patrick of Sandwich, MA, and daughter Shelagh and spouse Richard T. Kelley of Orlando, FL; granddaughters Kaylyn McGillicuddy (Randy Jarvis), Kerin and Colleen and great-grandsons, William and Wren Jarvis.
