Christine VanEtten Obituary

PORTVILLE - Christine M. VanEtten, of 713 Butternut Brook Road, passed away Saturday (June 10, 2017) at home, surrounded by her loving husband and family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Christine was born Feb.11, 1972, in Olean, and was a daughter of Jack and Marie A. Levia Tarr. In 1998 at their home, she married her loving husband, Donald R. VanEtten, who survives.

Christine worked at the Ponderosa as a server for 10 years before she had to stop working due to illness. Her first love was her family and her husband, Don, who was her soul mate. Christine's girls were her life and her grandchildren were her rays of sunshine. Her mom was her inspiration. Christine enjoyed her flower beds, which were beautiful, and spending time with family and friends, partying and dancing, especially on Halloween and the Fourth of July. She loved her poker nights and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Christine also loved her lifelong friends, Sherry Scanlon and Tammy Fye VanEtten. Along with her loving husband, Christine is survived by her mother and stepfather, Marie A. (Larry) Clayson of Ischua; two children, Heather R. VanEtten of Portville and Amber L. VanEtten of Portville; five grandchildren, Donavan, Callie, Alyla, Kristiauna and Kayson; a brother, Daniel A. (Stephanie) Bishop of Budapest, Hungary; a stepsister, Heidi L. Clayson of Arcade; a stepbrother, Hiram E. (Amy) Clayson of Arcade; and several nieces and nephews. Christine was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Bishop on Jan. 21, 2009; and her father, Jack A. Tarr on Nov. 14, 1986.

Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (June 17, 2017) at which time a funeral service will be held. The Rev. Glenn Treaster will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cornerstone Medical Loan Closet, 920 N. 4th St., Olean, NY 14760. Online condolences may be made at www.LetroMcIntosh SpinkFuneralHome.com.
