I was thinking about you today Pipes so I drove up to your grave. It’s been a long time. The last I saw you was at the 2004 St Pattys parade in Southie. Drinking beers and laughing because you were wearing your greens and I was wearing my blacks!!! The people there didn’t know what to make of it. Love the 1st Mar Div patch on your Army uniform.
Rest In Peace my friend!

Hey Brother. You have to be in a better place than the nonsense going on down here. Had a cocktail on the 16th and thought of the laughs we shared on the Training Det., and the pain we shared in SFAS. Never forgotten. I even ordered a KIA bracelet awhile back so you're physically with me, as well as spiritually. Rest with Jesus brother. De Oppresso Liber.....

I miss my Husband, Chris, every single day and am so thankful that once in awhile I am "found" by friends of his who share stories about him. There is a sadness that has just never left me and I just have not "moved on" the way people think I should. I still wonder all the time, "why him??" There are so many bad people in this world and they seem to live forever. Sorry, I know no one likes negativity but I'm being honest with my feelings. Connie Piper

Very sad to learn about Chris's death. I just learned about it Saturday November 16, 2013. I was on a veterans cruise to the Bahamas and met a friend of Chris. I served with Chris in Wpns Co. 3/8 Marine from 1981-1983. Chris, Steve Tobin and I became tight friends, we were all from Boston, Mass. The three of us spent all of our time together doing Marine mischief. Chris was very well liked amongst us Marines. My fondest memory of Chris was he became a Marine sniper and how happy and proud we were. We spent on Sunday in the barracks at Geiger making his gillie suit and Chris being commended for having one of the best in class. We all served in Beirut and Chris was attached to the American University. We spent many weekends at Chris house in Marblehead, Mass. I send my condolences to the family. I am sure Chris was a good a soldier as a Marine. R.I.P Semper Fi - John "Rock" Lothrop

I served with Chris at Camp Lejeune in 1986 and 1987, when he was honorably discharged. He once took me on a PT run thru the woods and yelled at me for not beating him. We also went overseas together in 1986 (NATO cruise). I respected him for his knowledge, passion and leadership, while serving as a Marine. RIP Leatherneck, and Semper Fidelis. You are not forgotten.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Piper Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

I remember talking to him at Ft. Sewall while he was training for SF. I asked him if that was what he doing, and he said it was. He looked familiar, but I couldn't place him. After he died, I found out he used to protect the younger kids like me, from the bullies. He died doing what he loved, what he trained so hard for. Other than a long life and a peaceful death at 100, I bet this is how he would have chosen to go, on US soil, from injuries he sustained in combat with his brothers defeding this great nation he loved so much.

David, thanks for the note on Chris. i happen to live in Lexington and was at both parades on Patriots day. on my way to the second one, i passed this float with hand drawn images of those service members with ties to MA that have passed since 9/11. I was running late to herd a float of 40 little hockey players, when this float caught my eye. My oldest, Jack, (who never knew Chris) but through my stories knows of him, said "hey dad, do you think Chris is there?" i was pre-occupied until he said that and then realized exactly why were there today. i stopped dead in my tracks and found this pencil rendering of Chris (and all the others). i found the artist and gave her a big hug and thanked her for what she's doing. man, it caught me totally off guard but totally made my day and reminded me why we were actually there on Patriot's Day. the website is www.operationhometies.com and it's very cool. As Chris always said 'Freedom isn't free' - miss you my brother.

Another year has passed and I am not able to visit, once again, as I promised I would one early morning at the cemetery. I promised to return and share a drink with him and his closest friends every so often. But I find myself over in the mountainous playground where I met Chris and I'm still applying all the lessons he taught me in 2003. "When I saw how my old childhood friend had died I was inspired to write this song about the town we loved . . . till we again share the consecrated ground of our Marblehead you remain vivid in my heart. I can yet here your rich laughter.
MARBLEHEAD ON MY MIND
From the heart of
THORNE PETERS
There's a seacoast village with a lighthouse, on a rocky shore
And I won't be home again till I am sprayed by that harbor
Where the moonlight over Salem shines through my bedroom window
And I meet my friends of Sunday at The Willows
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Watching sailboats drifting by from West Shore Drive
I've got Marblehead on my mind
My grandfather lays at rest in Waterside
Down a tree-lined street with amber leaves, I ride across the years
As the song “Marblehead Forever” is just ringing in my ears
Over land that the Naumkeag nurtured with their hearts
Stands a township for the ages like a history mark
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Hear the drum & fife from Front Street to Abbott Hall
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Imagine "Old Ironsides" under fire at Fort Sewall
When Marbleheaders took Washington across the Delaware
The hamlet came to be known for the seas that they would fare
As the “Ye Navy” set sail to be master of the waters
From the seaman of the Hanna to the yachters
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Where the summer breeze blows a breath of brine
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Where the starlight and the ocean intertwine
I've got Marblehead on my mind
Watching sailboats drifting by from West Shore Drive
I've got Marblehead on my mind
My old friend lays at rest in Waterside

I first met "Pipes" in 1997 while stationed in Panama with the Marines. There were only 10 of us in the Sniper Plt so we became a pretty tight, pretty quick. I got the call late last night(4/11/09)from another member of the Panama plt who came across the info on the web that Chris was KIA. I was frozen. Although I knew he went over to the SF some time ago I had no knowledge of his service in the war. After reading through several web sites, especialy those telling of him winning the Bronze Star in 03 then electing to go back active in 04 what can you say except, that was Pipes. That's the kind of man he was. He was there in 83 when they bombed the embassy in Beirut and he was on duty until the end, some 22 years later. If you could ask him he wouldn't have had it any other way. His life was one to make the biggest action hero jealous and we loved him. I'm glad I know where his is now because I'll be asking him for help until I see him again. Semper Fi Builder

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Chris:
I came across this site while I was poking around links, from an email Ron Knight forwarded me. I am struggling with exactly what to say, because I want it to be profound, & mirror the exceptional sacrifice you made for my wife and children, and the words fail to convey my deepest gratitude. I have these past few years had the pleasure of getting to know Deirdre, Christopher, & Colleen. You should be especially proud of your children. I don’t know how they continue on in such an exceptional manner, truly an acknowledgment to your sacrifice. We met a few times, which is to say I really didn’t get to know you. We had a few things in common, & you made an impression. Lately I have gotten to know your friends, they certainly haven’t forgotten! A testament to your extraordinary spirit in life. I had the distinction of listening to stories from Pie, Ronnie, & Tim the other night, & they invited me to your grave on Veteran’s Day, I was honored, by their request. Chris,
I'm think about you often and the great things did. I wear your memorial braclet all the time to remind me of the sacrifice you made for us. I'm going to get some new ones made soon. You left behind a legacy that will live on forever. It seems just like yestday I was at the wedding in Okracoke having a beer with you and your Dad. You will never be forgotten for the things that you have done for us. I'll make it to Marblehead next year for another Memorial Visit and have a beer or two with Ronnie, Pie, and Timmy at the VFW. Connie is fixing up the house and coming out to visit this weekend. She is an amazing Sister and helped me through some hard times during my divorce. You all were both very fortunate to know and love each other eventhough it was for a short period. Connie found her niche supporting wounded Soldiers and their families. I know you would have wanted her to do something like that to help the Wounded Warriors from the war.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Hi Sweetie, It's July 07 and Deirdre is with me for the summer. We love each other's company. She has a little part time "job" at the smootie bar at the Ritz Epps gym. We were at Camp Lejeune this past weekend and birds kept visiting us the whole time outside our hotel room. I think you are having these little birds pay us these visits! There were two love birds outside our room and this one bird that was outside of our room all weekend long just singing his heart out...like the bird outside my window in the morning that used to sing to wake me up - about the time you would call me from Afghanistan..remember? I'd put the phone up to the window so you could hear him sing!! I do so hope this is you sending me a sign. I believe in this kind of thing, ya know. Well, we had a nice 4th of July with the fireworks on post. Deirdre was so looking forward to this! She is so beautiful and grown up these days. I know you see us and are keeping an eye on us both. We still miss you horribly, though. It's unbearable at times!! Keep sending us signs! Love, your wife, Connie

Connie,
In the short time that I have gotten to know you, I can say that you are a remarkable person. To go through what you have and remain strong. You are truely an inspiration as Chris is. You are a wonderful person, that I can call a friend. The strength that Chris's love gives you is a gift. Never loose that. He is with you all the time and smiling down from heaven. He knows the wonderful woman he married and how strong she is. His strength is your insperation, as well as all those his story touches. I feel like I knew Chris, just from the stories you share. I beleive God brings people into our lives and I am glad that he has brought you as a friend to me. And Chris as a source of strenth to all of us. Share his story with all and keep his memory alive.
Love to you and your family,
Michele (Shelley)

I am glad that you found such happiness with Chris, and saddened that he was taken from you so soon.

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

As the days go by I love my husband more and more. He loved so passionately and lived his life for those who were closest to him. His children, Deirdre and Christopher are SO VERY MUCH like him. My comfort these days is the time I get to spend with them when I visit Marblehead. Deirdre, you will always mean the WORLD to me! And Christopher, his little boy, I look forward to all the years to come to see you grown to be a man like your father.

To the family of Chris Piper. I can truly say, "I can't imagine what you are going through." My prayers and sympathies are with you. If there is anything I can do to help you through this, please contact me. Like I said, I can't imagine what you're going through, others can't possibly know what I have been going through the last almost 3 years. I know what it's like to cry day in day out. I know how it feels to hunger for your loved one, and I know depression, sorrow and knives going into my heart every day. I'm Marc's Mom. He and his collegues have been hostages in Colombia for nearly 3 years. I can cry with you and share your pain. I'm only and email away. Jo

Christopher Neal Piper where should I begin. Well for one thing Chris was without a doubt one of the best true warriors who did what he said he would, if your life was in his hands you could sleep easy knowing Chris was on watch. Love for his country and everything he stood for would bring any grown man to his knees in tears. I will always remember you brother and I pray for your family always. It was truly a honor to serve with you. To Ernest and Helen you did a incredible job raising your son with strong ethics and values. My heart goes out to you God bless.

Hello Everyone, I have been going through my sweethearts things and I MUST share this with you all. This is how very patriotic and thoughtful Chris is. It's a letter he wrote to a friend. He writes:
Dear Jackie,
Veteran's Day is nearing, and I can't help but to think of men like your brother. This is the greatest country in the world because of men like your brother.
I am enclosing one of my all time favorite poems and hope it can give some of your brothers warmth.
Thanks from a grateful soldier, Chris.
"BURY ME WITH SOLDIERS" author unknown
I've played alot of roles in life;
I've met a lot of men.
I've done a lot of things,
I'd like to think I wouldn't do again.
And though I'm young, I'm old enough to know that someday I'll die and to think about what lies beyond
beside whom I would die.
Perhaps it does not matter much; still if I had my choice, I'd want my grave 'amongst soldiers when at last death quells my voice.
I'm sick of hypocrisy
of lectures of the wise.
I'll take the man, with all the flaws, who goes scared, and dies.
The troops I knew were common place
They didn't want the war;
They fought because their fathers and their fathers had before.
They cursed and killed and wept
God knows they're easy to deride...
But, bury me with men like these; they faced the guns and died.
It's funny to think of it, the way we got along.
We'd come from different worlds to live in one that no one belongs,
I didn't even like them all;
I'm sure they'd all agree
Yet I would give my life for them,
I know some did for me.
So, bury me with soldiers, please, though much maligned they be.
Yes, bury me with soldiers, for I miss their company.
We'll soon not see their likes again;
We've had our fill of war.
But bury me with men like them til someone else does more.

I had the distinct pleasure of serving with Chris with TOW Platoon, HQ, Co, 8th Marines in the mid 80's.
Chris was a Marines MARINE! I looked up to him and aspired to be as good a Marine as he was.
He was dedicated and a true warrior. Our country is a sadder place without him. I was shocked to hear about what happened. I always thought of Piper as INDESTRUCTABLE.
Chris, i salute you and thank you for your selfless service to this great country of ours.
You will be sorely missed. Semper Fi brother.

Hello Everyone, I you all get to read this: On Sept. 24, in Chris' hometown (Marblehead, MA), The "Gerry 5" Fire Dept. will hold a fundraising event (along with the VFW). It starts about 5 or 6pm. Please call Dave Rogers (Veteran's Services) for more information. His phone # is: 781-631-0990 and 978-273-2135. I know there is also the new High School Football Field that they are also dedicating to Chris. That will be on Thanksgiving Day (again, in Marblehead). Dave also will have details on this event.
To any of Chris' fellow SF teammates from 20th SFG - please email me regarding a ceremony that the Spec. Ops. command here at Ft. Bragg is going to plan. They will present Chris' Bronze Star with Valor to me. General Jones just called me this morning and said that it will take place sometime in September...and that he'll make sure that your travel arrangements will be taken care of. Please contact me for details. It would be great to see ya'll down here! Chris would have enjoyed and appreciated it LOTS.
Sincerely,
Connie Moralez-Piper

I remember Chris when I was in high school, he was always someone to look up to. I met Chris at a cookout at my brothers house last summer, and he made me wish I had never left the military. God bless you Chris, I know you are keeping watch over us all, and I sleep better knowing that.
Marblehead will never forget you, and I will stop by "The Hill" as often as I can and make sure to thank you and keep a flag there for you.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

I just want to send a thank you note to all of the people over in 7th group who has been there for my friend Connie. She is one of the most independent women I know. But even in times like these, you need support. I am so happy to see the support the Special Ops community has given her. Chris is thankful right now as he is looking down. Times like these make you realilze that here at Ft Bragg we have such a tight network here. Once you are in the family, you are always in. Especially when adversity is present. If you think about it, there really is no other family like the one that we have here in this small, unique, complex, unconventional life that we all live here in the SF community...good, bad, happy, sad..there really is no family and bond like it.....Before Chris left, Connie and him got married..he looked at me and said.."i want her to be taken care of if anything happens to me, ...i want her to have my name.." with saying that, i appreciate the people that are helping in this time of need...lets make sure that Connie is also taken care of...let us not forget that when a man deploys to war, his wife is at war with him...when he re-enlists, his wife re-enlists with him...Connie, you went to war with Chris, you backed him on his re-enlistment..you should be honored also. Thank you.

Hello dear friends and family,
Very soon I'm going to have a memorial page created for Chris (by the Special Operations Warrior Foundation." You can access it using the following web address:
www.aherostribute.org
Chief Gisclair, if you happen to read my entry here, please email or call me because I'd like to know how to contact you when you arrive here at Ft. Bragg next March ! My office phone is (910)432-5608, and my email is listed on this site. If anyone else would like to contact me, you're more than welcome. I'd enjoy hearing from ya'll.
My days are getting more difficult to get through because my life is slowly but surely returning to normalcy. I had a feeling it would be like this. What brings me the most comfort is hearing about Chris, talking to people who knew him, and doing things like his memorial page and keeping in touch with his children, their mother Colleen, and of course, his father.
Every day I think of more memories...such as...this past Mother's Day, he called me and wished me a happy mother's day and sent me a sweet "aol" greeting. I told him, "but, I'm not a mom.." and he replied "Yes, you are, you're Deirdre and Christopher's stepmom." This is how thoughtful and loving my husband is. Another memory is when we were walking through Sears at the Fayetteville mall, I saw these cute little clocks in the shape of those old-fashioned Singer sewing machines..you know, the ones with the foot push pedal..I mentioned to Chris that I was going to get it for my mom for Mother's Day and he said "let me buy it, she's like my mom now since I don't have a mom." (His mom had sadly passed away 8 months prior.) It was many instances such as these that assured me of his love and devotion. I spoke with one of his brothers last week (his best friends were his true brothers) and was so happy to hear that Chris had flowers that loved ones have taken to him. I sure wish I lived a lot closer to Marblehead so I could be with him any time I chose... and tell him about my day, my joys, my trials and tribulations, how much I miss him and wish I could hold his hand. ..well...I need to share this with you all. I think it is a touching remembrance for my dear Chris.
"Do not stand on my grave and weep. I'm not there. I don't sleep.
I'm in the caressing winds that blow.
I'm the crystal glint in snow.
I'm the sun's warmth on ripened grain.
I'm the soft spring rain when you waken in the morning hush.
I'm the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight.
I'm the radiant stars that glisten at night.
Don't stand at my grave and cry; I didn't die.
BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE PHOTOS THAT I JUST POSTED IN THE PHOTO GALLERY.
Take care Everyone, please write.
