CLARENCE WALKER Obituary

WALKER, Clarence W. "Chuck" Passed away on December 19, 2018 after a period of declining health. He was born in Duxbury on July 19, 1923, the son of Percy L. and Grace Delano Walker. After graduating from Duxbury High School, he enrolled at Northeastern University. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943 and served in Europe during World War II. After the war, he married his sweetheart, Marie Mahler of Kingston, in 1946. After receiving his degree from Northeastern, he joined his father and his brother Donald in Duxbury's premier real estate brokerage, Percy L Walker & Sons, later Walker Bros. Chuck was committed to Duxbury and served the town in many ways over the years. In 1948 he was appointed to serve on Duxbury's first Finance Committee. He served on other appointed committees, including the North Hill Advisory Committee, the Duxbury Beach Study Committee, the Town Charter Study Committee and the Ellison Trust. He served as a trustee of the Partridge Fund for over 50 years, for many of those years as its chairman. He also served as chairman of the Planning Board and was an active member and officer of the Duxbury Rotary Club and the American Legion Post 223. He was a member of the vestry and sang in the choir at St. John's Episcopal Church and was chairman of the Duxbury Republican Town Committee. The Fourth of July Activities Committee saluted Chuck in 2006 by selecting him as Grand Marshall of the Fourth of July parade, acknowledging him for "all you have done to maintain the integrity of our town's peaceful and rural character." He also received a national Presidential Service Award in 2009. Chuck loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and golf and was an avid sports fan. One of his family's favorite photos shows him and Marie holding the Red Sox 2004 World Series Trophy. When it was time for Chuck and Marie to leave their home on Tremont Street, a house that two generations before had belonged to Chuck's grandparents, they wanted to remain in town and moved to the Village at Duxbury in 2012. Chuck is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marie, by three daughters, Linda Seale of Duxbury, Judy Walker of Maplewood, NJ and Sharon Solstice of Walnut Creek, CA, and by three grandchildren. Donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Friends of the Duxbury Council on Aging, 10 Mayflower St., Duxbury, MA 02332 or to Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, PO Box 2893, Duxbury, MA 02331. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Friday, December 21 at the Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., NORTH PLYMOUTH. The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, December 22 at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 410 Washington St., Duxbury.

Psalms 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

Losing someone that we love never comes easy. It is truly heartbreaking. May God's promises in Isaiah 65:17 comfort and help you.

Oh what a lovely gentleman Chuck always was. His real estate business, the honest agent and owner he was, was a huge success and he trained many of us. Marie is such a beautiful person and they had such a wonderful life with their children and grands. He will be missed by many of us. Thank you Lord, he is at peace. And wishes for the same to his loving family. June O'Neil
