Gary, Donna, and Katie -

As I am sure you are painfully aware, the "firsts" are the hardest. Although it sounds trite, time helps heal the wounds, and it does get easier. None of us will ever forget Dan, and, like you, we'll love him forever. Throughout your grieving, your family has been a model of grace and love - an inspiration to the rest of us. Please know that we'll be thinking of you this week, and always.

Donna, Gary, and Katie -

I'll never forget when Dan handed off my water bottle during the marathon - he was so intent on his mission. I've loved watching him grow into a fine young man. Your grief is your final act of love for Dan, a love that was plainly paramount in your lives.

I love you all.

To the entire McCabe family, I am so sorry for your loss. Dan was a student of mine at the Wellesley Middle School. When I think about him I am reminded of the fun we had in class. He was always smiling and cracking a joke. He was smart, determined, and so much fun to be around. I hope that you will somehow be comforted by all the wonderful memories you have of Dan. He was such a great kid.
