Daniel PEREZ Obituary

PEREZ, Daniel Paul Advocate for Muscular Dystrophy Research Dies

Daniel Paul Perez, co-founder of the FSHD Society and a driving force behind research into facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, died October 2, in Bedford, MA, from complications related to the disease. He was 63.

Mr. Perez helped establish the society in 1991, transforming it into a leading global organization. He played a pivotal role in securing federal support, including the 2001 Muscular Dystrophy CARE Act, and served on the federal Muscular Dystrophy Coordinating Committee.

A Harvard graduate, he began in neurobiology before moving into software, contributing to Oracle's database architecture and the Human Genome Project.

A Memorial will be held on November 9, at the Douglass Funeral Home, in LEXINGTON. Donations may be made to the FSHD Society.
