DAVID BRODEUR Obituary

BRODEUR, David D. 85, passed away Monday January 21, 2019 at Beverly Hospital. He was a longtime resident of Manchester- by-the-Sea, Beverly, and Gloucester. Mr. Brodeur began his career as an elementary school teacher in Florida. He then worked for the Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE), in India. Later, he was director of CARE in Sicily, and during that period he aided relief efforts for the survivors of a landslide that fell into a lake in northern Italy, in 1963, creating an inland tsunami that killed 2000 people. During the early 1970's, Mr. Brodeur worked in Washington, D.C. for the "New Towns" Project of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Afterward, he became the director of the South Australia Government's land use program, in Adelaide. In his later years, Mr. Brodeur wrote articles about several topics, including Biblical prophecy and the Israeli/Palestinian controversy. He was an avid tennis player and was highly knowledgeable about American painting and painters. Mr. Brodeur was born in Boston on Oct. 19, 1932, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Paul A. Brodeur, and grew up in Arlington Heights. He graduated from Harvard College before receiving a PhD. In Geography form Clark University, in Worcester. He is survived by a sister, Valjeanne Paxton, of Foret-sur-Lucens, Switzerland, and by his brother, Paul Brodeur, who lives in North Truro, MA. Funeral Services will be held privately.
