DAVID ISAAC CAPLAN

CAPLAN, David Isaac Of Canton, MA, formerly of Menlo Park, CA, and Framingham, MA, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2025 at the age of 95, surrounded by the love and comfort of his adoring family. Born on October 10, 1929, he was the son of James H. and Isabelle (Matthews) Caplan. David was the beloved husband of the late Elinor R. (Blumenthal) Caplan for 70 years and devoted father of James H. Caplan (Heather), Deborah J. Machlin (Robert), Susan T. Ryan (John), and Judith C. Crowley (Thomas). He was a cherished grandfather of ten and a fond brother-in-law of Victor Blumenthal (Lee), Ann Parker, Dorothy Wiedis, and the late David Blumenthal. His family was a constant source of pride and happiness throughout his life. A graduate of MIT (B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics) and the University of Pennsylvania (M.S.E.E.), David built a distinguished career in technology. After three decades of technical and managerial leadership on the East Coast, he and Elinor moved to Silicon Valley, where he served as Executive Vice President, President, and CEO of several companies, and as a mentor and board member for many more. David found joy in sailing on Cape Cod and later in piloting his own plane on the West Coast. A lifelong learner, he earned his Executive Juris Doctor degree with honors at age 77 and later became a licensed USPTO Patent Agent. After the loss of his beloved wife in 2023, David returned to Massachusetts, where he forged many close friendships and drew deep comfort from the supportive, loving community within Orchard Cove in Canton. Services will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at Temple Israel, 145 Hartford Street, Natick, MA, with interment to follow at Framingham-Natick Jewish Cemetery, Natick, MA.
