FAUSCH, David It is with deep love and sadness that we share the passing of David A. Fausch, at the age of 90. Although he was challenged by memory loss and other health issues over the past years, his spirit never failed as he greeted every day and everyone with a smile. He made this world a better place with his kindness, wit and compassion, touching family, friends and all those who spent time with him. David, born on an Iowa farm, explored the world through education, work, and travel. He earned a bachelor's from Drake University and a master's in journalism from Northwestern, where he joined the Medill Hall of Achievement. He later served as a U.S. Navy air intelligence officer, and he often recounted with awe how he witnessed history firsthand while on the boat that picked up astronauts returning from the early flights to space. During his 11-year tenure with Business Week magazine, David served as an assistant bureau chief in Chicago, bureau chief in Pittsburgh and editor of the management department in New York City. In that time, he won a Loeb Achievement Award for financial writing and was a Professional Journalism Fellow at Stanford University. Seeking new challenges, David transitioned from journalism to corporate public relations, moving to Boston, home of his lifelong favorite baseball team, to join The Gillette Company. Through his active involvement in the Public Relations Society of America, he established long-lasting relationships with colleagues around the country. He retired from Gillette as the vice president of corporate public relations and responsible for the company's worldwide public relations activities. In retirement, David split his time between Falmouth, MA and Sedona, AZ. He was an avid golfer, fly fisherman and adventurous traveler, visiting multiple countries around the world. He loved watching the sunsets and stargazing from his decks in Falmouth and Sedona. In Falmouth, he especially looked forward to the return of the Ospreys on the platform by his house and to viewing the annual fireworks from Surf Drive Beach with his family. David was a devoted and loving husband to Doris for 67 years. He was also a proud and supportive father to three children: Cynthia Rizzo, married to Steve Rizzo and living in Groton, MA, Laura Barrows, married to Reginald Barrows and living in Mashpee, MA and John Fausch, married to Maureen Fausch and living in Douglas, MA. He delighted in the joy of his grandchildren, Christopher Rizzo, Matthew Fausch, Lindsay Barrows, Cameron Fausch and Rachel Barrows. His advice, guidance and generosity will be missed by the entire family, even as they find comfort in the memories they share of their husband, father and grandfather. They feel blessed to have had special time with David during his final years, when they were able to share how much he had meant to them. David's life will be celebrated with Calling Hours on Thursday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to noon, at the Chapman Funeral Home, at 475 Main Street, in FALMOUTH, with a Service to follow. Immediately following will be a Burial Service at the National Cemetery, in Bourne. There will be a reception for family and friends beginning at 1:30 p.m., at The Sagamore, 1131 Route 6A, Sagamore, MA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: The Osprey Project:
