To Zipporah and Daughters,
Visiting with David in the hospital and speaking with him daily, before his demise, gave me great comfort and satisfaction. May he find eternal rest and peace and may you all continue to treasure his memory.

I remember a wise comment from Rabbi Jacobs that he made in front his house while we talked about the language of the Bible. He had just finished explaining that the presence of just four Hebrew letters designated something as sacred.
So when I asked him, "What makes the Bible holy?" I expected a similar answer, and he later gave one in detail. But his first response was, "Reading it."

Our deepest sympathies. We were so sorry to hear. As neighbors we would see Rabbi Jacobs on his strolls, he would stop to chat with my nephews before heading inside, we would share tomatos from the yard and wave hello. As one can see from the guest book, he was truely a warm thoughtful individual who has touched many.

Dear Mrs. Jacobs and Family
No nicer person I have ever met. His gift to me and my family along with yours, Mrs. Jacobs, was immeasureable. I'm sure that his passing was not only a great loss for you and your family, but to everyone who knew him, without exception.
I cannot measure the sympathy that goes out to you and the family.
With love,

To Mrs Jacobs and the family of Rabbi Jacobs,
As neighbors of Temple Beth El on Bridge St, for 44 years, the Flanders family offers its condolences to you. We moved there in 1955 and watched the temple be built by Rabbi Jacobs and watched your family walk to Temple and the girls grow. My dad, Al, enjoyed talking with the Rabbi on many occasions, until he died in 1998. I enjoyed the Rabbi's robust voice, his firm convictions and beliefs and his laughter. Our sympathies, the Flanders family

Dear Aunt Flora and Girls:
My brother Sid called me to tell me of David's passing. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. I have the warmest memories as a child of you and David and the time my mother and I flew to Halifax. That was a wonderful experience for me as a wide eyed 9 or 10 year old. David's life's work as a congregational rabbi for so many decades is remarkable as he was, I'm sure, a rock and a leader in the community.

I just read the recent article about Rabbi Jacobs and had been thinking about him and your family. I wanted you to know that I’m so sorry for your loss. Rebecca, I don’t know if you’ll remember me, but I remember your Dad (and Father Blute) while visiting your home back when we attended Furnace Brook School together ( in the third grade). I just wanted to offer my condolences to you and your family.

The Jacobs Family has been a part of my life since 1973, and an important part of my husband's family life for MANY more years than that. Rabbi Jacobs performed my husband's funeral, which was broadcast on Boston radio. His eulogy was so moving, it is in my heart forever. He was truly an inspiring man and one I will miss daily for the rest of my life.
My thoughts, prayers and love are with the whole family now.

Dear Mrs. Jacobs,
So sorry to hear of Rabbi's passing. Temple Beth El and your family were such a part of my growing up and such an influence on my life and in particular, my "Jewish life". I will always remember him and the close relationship he shared with my father. May Hashem comfort you and all those who mourn for Zion and Jerusalem.

In addition to extending my sympathies, let me add that Rabbi Jacob's words of wisdom at funerals turned somber occasions into life-affirming ones. My hope for the Jacobs family is that they're lucky enough to find someone half as warm, wise and loving to speak at his funeral. His commanding voice will stay with me, but I already miss his calm presence.

I have fond memories of Rabbi Jacobs as a kind and erudite man. I recall his thoughtful sermons which often led to lively discussions around our family table. He made it possible for my mother to become the first woman at Temple Beth El to have the honor of an aliyah to the Torah. As my parents (Bob and Ethel Newman) aged, and when they died, he and his wife were very supportive and helpful.

My heart goes out to your family for your loss. I remember him, and stories of him, from my childhood. I lived on Monroe Road. My dad was Dr. Walter Ciani. Rabbi Jacobs once stopped a service and said ," Dr. Ciani, come down to the front. There is a seat". I hope all the girls are doing well. Ruth Ciani Brower
