DONALD BRESLOW Obituary

BRESLOW, Donald H. Of Framingham, age 83, on Thursday, June 9, 2016. For 59 years, the beloved husband of Joan Z. (Swartz). Loving father of Richard Breslow & his wife Elizabeth and Lisa Breslow Thompson & her husband Mark. Cherished grandfather of Samuel Breslow, Jeremy Thompson, and Connor Thompson. Dear brother of Dr. Roger Breslow & his wife Mary. Services at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 12:00 noon. Following the burial, the family will be at his late residence through sundown. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to Berkshire Hills Music Academy, 48 Woodbridge Street, South Hadley, MA 01075, www.berkshirehills.org. Don was a longtime resident of Framingham. He received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Brown University, and then worked as an electrical engineer for almost 40 years at Boston-area companies including Raytheon, Itek, and Litton. Over his distinguished career, he received 10 US Patents relating to his work on optical encoders. Don also served for many years as an adjunct faculty member in the Engineering School at Northeastern University. After his retirement from Litton, Don continued to work as an engineering consultant to many Boston-area companies, including Bose, and a medical device venture which tried to design and build an artificial human heart. Don also ran his own handyman business, and for several years volunteered as an assistant to science teachers at Shrewsbury High School. Don was a true Renaissance Man. In addition to being a loyal Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins fan, Don enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage, classical music and opera, horseback riding, carpentry, country-western music, gardening, auto repair, hiking, snow-shoeing, and boating. Don also loved Cape Cod and spent many summers there with his family, where he happily tended his vegetable garden (specializing in "Big Boy" (tomatoes), hunted for sea glass, cheered for the Falmouth Commodores, presided over numerous family barbecues, and piloted his beloved Boston Whaler in and around Woods Hole, Falmouth, and the Vineyard.

Not sure what to say?

Dr. Breslow was my advisor at Columbia, Class of 1977. He guided me in my graduate school selection. He was very supportive of me in college and in selecting the right graduate school. Although my eventual career led me away from research, I appreciate his support. I transferred from the College of Engineering to Columbia College, and when I did, I felt lost, and needed direction as to my future. He helped me immensely. I was sad to hear of his passing.

I bumped into to Don last year at Lowes in Framingham after not seeing him for probably more than 40 years - when, at the time, you folks were my neighbors 2 doors down. Even after all that time, we chatted and caught up like it was yesterday.

May your memories together last forever and help you through this difficult and sad time.
