DOROTHY CATE Obituary

Cate, Dorothy, A. 76 of Scituate, passed away on 8/2/2015 surrounded by the love, comfort and care of family at her daughter's home in Englewood, Fl. She was the devoted wife for 51 years of Stephen Cate and loving mother of Earl and his wife Joanne of Weston, Elizabeth and her husband Michael Gerroir of Andover, and Barbara and her husband Neil Jackson of Englewood, Fl. Cherished Nana of: Sophie, Noah, Milo and Ella Cate; Catelyn and Taylor Johnson, Kaitlin and Erin Gerroir; and Jessica and Jonathan Jackson. She is also survived by seven siblings: Frank Forward, Beverly Forward, Jean Forward, Gladys Yeager, Janet Tanner, Phyllis Forward and Joan McGowan. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Emma, sister Maxine Stockman and brother Robert Forward. Dorothy grew up in Saugus one of ten children, all of whom were to go on to secondary schooling. She graduated with her RN from Melrose-Wakefield Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. Her favorite years of nursing were spent at Children's Hospital in the neonatal ward. Sewing was a favorite activity carried throughout her life from the Easter fashions for her siblings to her beloved quilting that she shared not only with her sisters Janet and Gladys but with "sew" many on the South Shore from her venue at the Cohasset Farmer's Market. She was the first to give her time to care for children of family and friends when called for. Flowers and gardening were also a passion that won her a blue ribbon for her Dahlias. Her heart was full of love for life and her presence will be greatly missed. There will be a memorial service September 13th at 4pm held at St.Luke's Episcopal Church in Scituate, Reverend Raymond Low officiating, and a memorial gathering and reception will be held directly following at the River Club on Border Rd in Scituate, family and friends are invited. Please consider in lieu of flowers a donation in her memory to the Jimmy Fund.
