DOROTHY DERHAGOPIAN Obituary

DerHAGOPIAN, Dorothy M. 88, died Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Scarborough, ME. She was born in Boston, MA, on April 1, 1926, the daughter of Charles and Grace Bedrosian of Watertown, MA. A caring and loving woman, Dorothy was fortunate to live a long and memorable life. An excellent cook, Dorothy loved to entertain and to share her many recipes with friends and relatives. She was also an avid bowler and continued to enjoy her favorite activity well into her 80s. Her greatest joy came from spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy was a doting grandmother and never missed an opportunity to do something special for her grandchildren. Dinner at Grammas was always eagerly anticipated and never disappointing. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Zaven DerHagopian, and her sister, Marie Bedrosian of Watertown, MA. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Elissa and John Putukian of Sudbury, MA, her daughter, Lucine DerHago- pian of Methuen, MA and her son and daughter-in-law, Zareh and Joanne DerHagopian of Falmouth, ME, grandchildren, Eric DerHagopian of San Diego CA, Alison DerHagopian of Boston, MA & Alex DerHago- pian of Falmouth, ME, several nieces and nephews along with many dear friends. Honoring Dorothys wishes, there are no funeral services. For those that desire, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothys memory to: Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One, #1, Scarborough, ME 04074. http://www. hospiceofsouthernmaine.org or The Armenian EyeCare Project, PO Box 5630, Newport Beach, CA 92662. https:// www.eyecareproject.com.

Lucine, Zareh & family,

I am so sorry to hear that your mom passed - she was a great lady!! I always looked forward to my trips to Portland and seeing her. Be comforted that she is no longer in pain or suffering.

My deepest condolences.

Mom,

I will miss you a lot. You kept saying you didn't want to be a burden to me and Zareh during this past year. You were not, you raised us for 60 years. You took care of me for 3 months when I had back surgery and could not walk. I will miss you saying, "call me when you get home". Last year on Palm Sunday weekend, we were going to a restaurant before an Armenian dance and you fell but you still wanted to go to the dance as it was probably the last time you would be able to hear live Armenian music. Then you still drove to my place a week later to go to cousin Lisa's house for Easter. We couldn't find your car keys and we were going crazy. Then while you were taking a blouse out of the garment bag, the keys fell out, and you yelled my name. I will always remember this. I know you're at peace now and with Dad.

Love your daughter, Lucine

This beautiful photo of Dorothy is exactly how I remember her, reflecting her kind personality in better days, or when she appeared well. I know it was her wish not to suffer, as it was for all of us. Yet, the loss of someone so dear and precious hurts, and particularly when we see an image of contentment like this one. Lily's and my heartfelt condolences go out to Lucine, Elissa, Zareh and his family, and the entire DerHagopian and Putukian families.

With our deepest sympathy.

Lucine,
So sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. I remember working with you at Ventrex in Portland and you used to bring in treats for all to enjoy.
Take care, Betty Buck
