DOROTHY GIBSON Obituary

GIBSON, Dorothy S. "Dot" (Simmons) Passed away on July 16, 2017 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital, after a long illness. She was most recently a resident of Sunrise Senior Living, Wayland, MA, but was proud to call Arlington home, as she lived in the town for almost fifty years. Wife of the late Clifford Gibson, she is survived by her daughter Carol Marrochello, grandsons Andrew (Monica), and Matthew, and her great grandchildren Cody, Olivia, Grace, Dominic, Sophia and Nicole. She is also survived by her sister Henrietta and her brother-in-law Marshall, and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Nashville, TN, she lived in North Carolina before moving to Arlington, MA in 1969, where she was a well-known and beloved member of the community. Dorothy was a member of the Arlington Garden Club and worked for the Town of Arlington in various administrative capacities. She was also a member of the Park Avenue Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Women's Guild. She was devoted to her family, friends, crossword puzzles, baking and cooking, and was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and the Spy Ponders. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Jimmy Fund (Jimmyfund.org), or Arlington Youth Baseball (AYBSA PO Box 246, Arlington, MA 02476). A memorial service will be held at the Park Avenue Congregational Church, 50 Paul Revere Road in Arlington, on Saturday, August 5, at 1:00 pm. Family and friends are encouraged to stay for a reception immediately following the memorial. For updated information, please visit devitofuneralhomes.com

The world has lost an amazing woman. Dorothy Gibson (fondly known as Nan) was a great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was kind and had a heart of gold. I have many fond memories of her with my grandson, Cody W Marrochello, who adored her. She will surely be missed by all.

Dear Carol, Drew, Matt & Family,

I'm so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed Dot's company at graduations, weddings, showers, and other family get togethers. Hold onto all of the great memories with her and know you have a very special angel watching over you!

Carol and family: I do remember "Mrs. Gibson" well. Back in the Charlotte days when I'd spend the night with Carol, Mrs. Gibson always made me feel so welcome. She was a kind lady and a good cook as I recall! I saw her later in MA. She was just as kind and sweet. This will be a huge empty spot in your life, Carol, as you were the chief caregiver for many years. May the peace of God be with you as you navigate through this time. Love and hugs, Chris

Carol and family,
My deepest condolences are sent to you with this note for the loss of your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. I am so sorry the world has lost such an amazing lady. "Mrs. Gibson" has been a part of my life since Carol and I became friends in junior high school about 60 years ago! Through the years I have always admired her kindness, caring and concern for my family and mutual friends. Dorothy was one of the warmest and most caring people I have had the pleasure of knowing. I am sorry for the loss of such a valuable person in your lives. She will live on in my memories and thoughts. The loss of our mother is especially difficult. I know you will gradually find comfort in all the happy memories that you have.
My heartfelt sympathy,
Karen Richmond
