Dorothy Sullivan Obituary

A Marblehead native, died Sunday, February 10, 2002 in Decatur, GA. The loving daughter of Thomas and Katherine Campbell of Marblehead, MA, she is survived by her daughter, Kathy, Lawrenceville, GA; son Michael, Denver, CO; son Jim, Jonesboro, GA; son Tom, Decatur, GA; son Timothy, Wilmington, NC; son John, Greenville, SC; brother Charles Campbell, Marietta, GA and eight grandchildren. Dorothy received a BSN degree from Boston University and her RN diploma from Beverly Hospital. She was a nationally recognized and highly respected leader in the medical case management field. From 1970-72 she was Director of the Home Health Rehabilitation Dept. at Beverly Hospital. In 1972 she became the first Rehabilitation Nurse for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company in Atlanta, before advancing to Home Office Supervisor of the National Rehabilitation Nurse Program for Fireman's Fund, San Francisco, CA. Dorothy was a successful entrepreneur, returning to Atlanta in 1982 where she was founder and president of Sullivan Health and Rehabilitation Management Inc., a premier medical case management company. She was appointed by Governor Jimmy Carter to the first Georgia Workers' Compensation Rehabilitation Advisory Committee, which was instrumental in the development of the current Georgia Workers' Compensation system. She was elected charter president of the Georgia Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, which later honored her as the first recipient of its Distinguished Service Award. Dorothy was a devoted member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Her strength, wit and profound wisdom touched everyone around her. She will be greatly missed. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church, 636 W. Ponce DeLeon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her honor to the St. Thomas More Building Fund. A memorial service will be held in Marblehead at a later date.
