DOUGLAS BAIRD Obituary

BAIRD, Douglas S. Child Welfare & Early Education Advocate Douglas "Dougie" 71, formerly of Georgetown and Swampscott, MA passed away September 14, 2017. Born on November 7, 1945, he was the son of Walter and Mary Davis Baird and grew up in Lexington, MA. He leaves his wife of 48 years, Margaret, sons Eli and Ethan, daughter-in-law, Robin, and canine sidekicks, Zeke and Casco. He also leaves his siblings Brinna and husband Frank Sands, Anne Baird and husband Steve Campbell, and Davis and wife Deanna Leamon. In addition he leaves a large and loving extended family and a network of friends and colleagues. Doug's local and national career was dedicated to social justice and the well-being of children, particularly those at-risk. He was the first Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Children and Families followed by a 27 year career at the oldest early education organization in the country, Associated Early Care and Education. Doug was instrumental in the founding of MADCA and The Provider's Council, influential state organizations that continue to impact public policy and support best practice. From 1980 to present, Doug was also the President /CEO of Baird Associates, a consulting firm providing IT support to mostly non-profit organizations. His passionate connections to family and career will live on as part of his legend and legacy. Visiting Hours: A Celebration of Life will be held on October 15th at Mass Audubon Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport from 1:00-3:30pm.

Margaret,
I am so sorry for your loss, Doug was one of the good guys.He worked to make this world a better place for children.
I will always remember the sailing stories, especially with the dog, and how he loved Maine. Being a widow is really hard and I hope the boys bring you some comfort.
