HUGHES, Eileen (McCarthy) Of Peabody, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024. Previously of Somerville and Malden, Eileen was the daughter of the late John and Bridget (Lovett) McCarthy; and beloved wife of 63 years to the late Thomas L. Hughes, Sr. She was the cherished mother and mother-in-law of Julia and John McCarthy, James and Pamela (Haskard) Hughes, Mary Hughes and Kevin Menicocci, Thomas and Patricia (Colangeli) Hughes, Jr., Kathleen and Paul Callinan and Peter and Judith (Bellini) Hughes. Eileen was the devoted grandmother of Gregory McCarthy, Laura (McCarthy) and Jonathan Beatty, Jennifer (Hughes) and Ryan Shanahan, Michael and Laura Hughes, Kelly (Hughes) and Benjamin Mullaney, Madeline Hughes, Devin and Megan Callinan, Ryan Callinan, Brenna (Callinan) and Timothy Buckley, Caroline Hughes, Jillian Hughes and Patrick Hughes. She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Sarah Hughes. Eileen was the doting great-grandmother to thirteen: Ryleigh, Jackson, Reagan, Tatum, Michael, Robert, Nolan, Jack, Liam, Conor, Mason, Isla and Lily. She was the caring sister of three brothers, all deceased: Daniel and Violet McCarthy, Jeremiah and Pauline McCarthy, and John and Mary McCarthy. She Is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; and predeceased by Marie L. McCarthy. With her sparkling blue eyes and an eternally optimistic attitude, Eileen was the true "north star" to her clan of 46, and counting, which comprised her immediate family. Her guidance, advice, caring counsel and complete selflessness were unmatched and we will forever be grateful to have been in her orbit. Her memory will be treasured. Retired Verizon employee. Visiting Hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., PEABODY, on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 9:15AM to 11:15AM, followed by a procession to St. Richard's Church, in Danvers, for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in her honor at 12PM.
