EILEEN MCDONOUGH Obituary

McDONOUGH, Eileen L. Of Hull, died August 29, 2015 (May 31, 1925 - August 29, 2015). Beloved wife of the late Stephen McDonough (Retired Boston Fire Department Engine 7/26) Devoted mother of Alice King and her husband John of Hull, Patrick McDonough and his wife Paula of NH, and Stephen McDonough of Chelsea. Loving grandmother of Adrienne and Timothy King, Alyssa McDonough and the late Catherine McDonough. Sister of the late Richard McCarthy of Weymouth and the late Ann Hanlon of Hull. Also survived by many step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Eileen was a woman ahead of her time, with a strong "I can do that" mentality and very independent. She returned to school in her early 50's and gained her nursing certificate. She was a compassionate nurse and care giver at the Faulkner Hospital for many years until she retired. Eileen enjoyed decorating, art, seeing shows at the South Shore Music Circus, and was always a great hostess and loved to entertain. Eileen won many ribbons in local art shows in Hingham and Cohasset for her beautiful acrylic paintings. She also adored the ocean and spending quiet evenings with her husband at the beach in Hull. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. Alice, Pat and Steve, Aunt Eileen was a special lady, quick to laugh and to offer homemade baked goods. When I was a newlywed she gave me advice on painting and stenciling.I can still remember her saying, "You'll never go wrong with Benjamin Moore Navaho White." Forty years later, I still use it and think of her. Her home belonged in "House Beautiful". She was also a wonderful nurse. In the late 70's, when my dad was at the Faulkner for surgery, Rick and I arrived for a visit to find he was not in his room. He'd had a setback and had just been transferred to the I.C.U. I fell apart and your amazing mother appeared. She gave me a hug and told me to stop crying. She said I had to go in to my dad with a smile on my face and that the will to live comes from love of family. He survived and I will always remember that visit with my dad and your mother's kindness and strength. We have great memories of her and Uncle Steve, two very special people. We're sorry you have lost her.

Eileen was such a lovely lady, always welcoming to all and so 'hip' for her time. I will miss dearly and will always remember her each time I have a nice cup of tea and make her Irish Bread.

My sympathy to her wonderful family.
