Elliot was one of the greatest influences on my life and career. He will be missed by many, but his legacy as the father of narrative medicine will live on. I will miss his sage advice and peaceful ways. My sympathies to Vicky and the entire familly.

Elliot was a dear friend and mentor for me during my short stay at BU in the late 1970's. His commitment to social issues and penetrating analysis of language in context, (is there any other kind?)attracted many acolytes for whom he was an inspiration for the way one can live one's values. He never wavered from this commitment. I visited him and Vicky several years ago and we had a wonderful conversation that focused on some reminiscences but also focused on the future and his current thinking and ideas. I will miss Elliot and his gentle spirit.
