Elmer Michelson Obituary

MICHELSON, Elmer Bertram Died, age 96, peacefully in his sleep on September 3rd, 2011 at the Royal in New Bedford. For most of his life he lived in Cambridge. Born in Boston, he was educated at Boston Latin, Harvard University and the University of Chicago. He taught Humanities at Northeastern University and the Boston Conservatory of Music. His love of history and literature drew students to him and fired in them a passion for the subjects he taught. Elmer was a lover of the arts, an avid reader and a wonderful storyteller with a great love for nature. His family was always close to his heart and kept them close to the end. He was a warm, generous and loving man. Elmer Michelson leaves 3 daughters, Joan Michelson, Florence Maynard and Victoria Gintis and her husband Murray Gintis, 4 grandchildren, Alex Maynard, Valerie Gintis, Owen Gintis, and Jessica Adkins-Michelson, and 3 great-grandchildren, Luke Maynard, Shira and Ari Sweet. His beloved wife Dorothy Glickman Michelson died in 1991. A private family funeral is being planned.

i was one of elmers caretakers. he will be missed by many he was a very loving and laid back man, I enjoyed the time we spent together and I wish we couldve had more time. But now hes my newest angel and I have a trimendous amount of respect and love for him and his family.
