FRANCIS SMITH Obituary

SMITH, Francis William A longtime resident of Lexington, passed away peacefully in his home on January 17, 2021 at the age of 89 years. A devoted family man, he was blessed to be surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Walpole, MA, Bill was a devoted husband of 60 years to Anna Marie (Johnson) Smith, and beloved father of Marilyn A. Kimball and her husband George, Kristin E. Horne, married to the late Richard Horne, Carrie E. Pitts and her husband Robert, and William D. Smith, married to Colleen E. Bellock. All family members are Lexington residents.

Mr. Smith leaves ten grandchildren: Samuel, Benjamin, William, and Katherine Kimball; Remy Horne; Olivia, Cullen and Brynn Pitts; and Grace and William Smith. He was the beloved brother to Chauncey Smith, Marjorie Upton, Mary Foley and the late Richard Smith, and dear cousin to Kathy Weber and AnnMarie Burgholzer.

Mr. Smith "Bill" was born and went to public schools in Walpole, MA. He graduated from Boston College in 1956. After a brief career in the insurance industry, he worked in real estate from 1960 to retirement. Mr. Smith was prominent in real estate development in the Greater Boston area as President and partner in the firm, Boyd/Smith Inc. Several of their company's condominium developments were completed in Boston, Weston, Lexington and Winchester. The company was known for employing distinguished architects for all of their developments.

Mr. Smith is a past President of the New England Chapter of The Institute of Real Estate Management, IREM. He was the youngest elected member of the Town of Walpole Board of Selectman and served later as a member of the Lexington Board of Assessors.

A man of deep faith, we celebrate Bill's ascension to heaven, knowing he will be greeted in the arms of the Lord where he will rest in eternal peace.
