FRANK CURCIO Obituary

CURCIO, Frank Of Gloucester, formerly of Newton, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, age 74. Beloved husband of 51 years to Virginia (Higgins), devoted father to David Curcio (Michelle) of Watertown and Michael Curcio of Charlestown. Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Margaret of Lyndhurst, NJ. Frank earned his PhD in psychology from Clark University and was a tenured professor of psychology at Boston University from 1966-1986 before changing careers to open Stellina restaurant in Watertown, MA with his wife. An extraordinary chef, visual artist, and lifelong learner, he was adored by many close friends and acquaintances and a mentor to countless young chefs and anyone who shared his intellectual curiosity. Funeral services will be private. A celebration of his life will be held at a date to be announced. All are welcome.

I was a graduate student of Frank's, probably his last, at BU, in about 1989. I was so very fond of him, and so admired his courage in following his passion, shifting from academia to Stellina's. This timing also meant we had my dissertation meetings at Stellina's while he served me polenta! I was thrilled with this whole arrangement. His very down to earth and compassionate style got me through grad school even as I had half a foot out the door myself, loving the real world of working with kids much more than academia per se. I was so saddened to happen across his obituary this morning searching for his article on echolalia. I also remember he had a huge black and white photo of I think one of his sons on his BU office door. What I learned from Frank, especially about following your heart, meant a great deal to me and has stayed with me.

I´ll always remember your family Portland visit, and reminiscing around the fire at the Press Hotel! Not to mention my wonderful memories working at Stellina.

Ginny,

Susan and I recently heard about Frank, and we were really saddened. I have many fond memories of him. He was a friend and a great support for me. It was unfortunate that we did not keep in touch with each other as we progressed through life.

Best,

Jerry

It was with deep sadness that I learned of Frank's passing. We shared many fond memories as classmates at Lyndhurst High School. I had the pleasure of meeting up with him again at one of our class reunions, many years later. Frank was still that same wonderful, warm and welcoming person, I had recalled so fondly. May he rest peacefully, in God's loving arms. I send my sincere sympathy to Frank's family and to everyone who treasured his friendship. - Anita Rullo Burgey

Hard to express my sadness about Frank's passing. Our conversations at Stellina's were few but very friendly, funny and always involved food stories, tastings, recommendations. A good guy.

Thinking of you,David & Michael....
