FRANK DESTINO Obituary

Destino, Frank C.
Suddenly December 13, 2012. Beloved husband for 51 years of Elizabeth (Visco) Destino. Father of Frank Destino II and his wife Patty of Natick, Nancy Alberico and her husband Dan of Watertown, Tom Destino of Watertown and Julie Lavalle and her husband Eddie of Newton. Devoted Papa to Daniel, Anthony & Melanie Alberico, Marybeth Destino and Bella & E.J. Lavalle. He leaves his sister Phyllis Rao of Gloucester, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Frank was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret (Sinagra) Destino and his brothers Alec Destino and Benny Sinagra. He was also the son-in-law of the late Louie & Dede Visco. He also leaves two of his very best friends, Ken Nickerson and Clyde Younger. Frank graduated from Gloucester High School and went on to play football for the University Of South Carolina. He was eventually drafted by the Detroit Lions. Gloucester was "his" town. Even after moving to Watertown in 1966, Frank continued to drive to Gloucester every Friday to visit family and friends. His town honored him when they inducted him as a charter member of the Gloucester High School Hall of Fame. Among his many athletic accolades he was the all time leading high scorer for the Fisherman for nearly a half century. Frank continued to keep in shape on a daily basis by working out at the athletic facility at Tufts University. He spent countless hours delivering day old bread to the fire stations, police stations and nursing homes from Watertown to Gloucester and was called the "Bread Man" by many. He had just returned home from a 10 day cruise with his wife Betty and friends. At 9:00pm that night he insisted on heading to Panera Bread in Watertown to make a "pick up". It was there that he suffered a fatal heart attack. He died doing one of the things he loved to do. Frank's proudest moments were spent with his grandchildren. He was also a master joke teller who was never afraid to laugh at himself.Visiting hours in the Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St, Rt. 16, NEWTON, Sunday from 2-6PM and again on Monday morning at 11AM before proceeding to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St, Newton for a Funeral Mass at 12Noon. Burial in Newton Cemetery.

My beloved Uncle Frank who always had a smile and made us all laugh. You helped eradicate the cancer to save my life with the St. Rafael healing oil and all the prayers. You had Faith that moved mountains. You spread the Gospel and are rewarded today in Heaven.

Our family would like to convey our heartfelt sympathy in your loss. Frank was one of a kind and I know that you will feel this loss for quite some time as no one is as unique a person as he was. Betty, Julie and Nancy hopefully you can find some solace in the fact that he did not suffer, and that he led a great life with all of you around him. I will always remember how no one could tell a joke quite the same as he could. He will be fondly remembered and missed.
Much love to all of you from our family.
Peggie, Audra, Jonathan & Mike Sullivan.
