Frederick DOOE Obituary

DOOE, Frederick Cummings Age 83, passed away peacefully, on August 30, 2025 in Boston, MA.

Born in Somerville in 1942, Fred lived in Cambridge, Arlington, and Watertown, until settling in Belmont in 1990. He was of Swedish and Scottish descent. He majored in political science at Northeastern University, and received Master's of both Public Administration and Library Science from the University of Rhode Island.

He met his wife, Catherine, while hiking in the Appalachian Mountain Club, and they were married at the St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel in Storrs, CT, in 1984.

Fred was one of the longest serving town employees in Belmont history, working at the Belmont Public Library for 47 years and retiring in 2019. In his free time, he was a national-level swimming official.

In death, Fred joins his mother Olga; father, Frederick; and son, Fritz. He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Catherine Byrne; daughter, Mary Dooe, son-in-law Patrick Fabics; and beloved grandson, Liam.

Services will be held Friday, September 12, at 11am, at St Paul Lutheran Church, 929 Concord Turnpike, Arlington, MA 02476.
