FREDERICK PENNINO Obituary

PENNINO, Frederick L. A Life Well Lived Age 77, of Farmington, CT. died July 13, 2018 at 7:47 pm.

Fred was born in Everett, MA where he lived until the age of 14 when the family moved to Tewksbury, MA. He attended University of New Hampshire before transferring to Suffolk University in Boston where he earned a BS in Business Administration. He went on to earn his MBA from Long Island University with a full teaching fellowship.

Fred had an incredibly rewarding career in the IT field working on the global stage for over 45 years for a wide variety of major companies including Univac, Sperry, Stratus, Tandem, Compaq, Unisys, HP and IBM. He was one of the leading industry experts in the worldwide Securities Exchanges and Financial Clearing House Industries. His job found him advising companies, governments and stock exchanges in more than 70 countries across the globe. He was sought after for frequent speaking engagements and as a panelist for financial services industry forums. Perhaps his greatest sense of accomplishment came from the dozens of people he mentored and coached throughout the years, choosing always to seek out raw talent and nurture it. As a result of Fred's job he leaves behind a large number of friends in every corner of the planet who were very special to him.

Fred raised his family, together with former wife Eileen (Brown), in Norwalk, CT where he worked closely with his local church, led numerous fundraising events, and worked with intercity kids and their families. After his children were grown, Fred also lived for periods of time in Boston, San Francisco, and Plymouth, MA. While in Boston, Fred did extensive community service, the highlight of which was his work helping to reclaim a vacant lot to create an award-winning community garden and his efforts with the city to help rebuild brick sidewalks and install new lampposts.

Fred was a fighter who spent the last years of his life battling two types of cancer. He leaves behind a legacy that highlights tenacity, the value of reading, tolerance of differences, appreciation for different cultures, an unwavering devotion to the Red Sox and the Patriots, a passion for music and art, and the value of family and friendship.

Fred will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Elizabeth Pearson; his two children, Jacqueline Scheib of West Hartford, CT and David Pennino of Wilton, CT; David's wife Elizabeth (Nilson); five granddaughters, Madeline, Alexandra, Annabelle, Emma, and Lila; his brother John and sister-in-law Rita Pennino; and several beloved nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Canty.

Calling hours will be on July 25, 2018 from 4-7 pm at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06119. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Fred on July 26, 2018 at 10 a.m., at Saint Patrick - Saint Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford, CT 06103.

Thought tonight of my special cousin. When I searched...I was stunned to see he had died. He and I were the oldest cousins and we enjoyed an olden days childhood in a rather unconventional family. We lost touch after our fathers passed but I loved Freddie. So sorry that I waited too long to reach out. Ann Marie Pennino Jonah
