I will miss you Fred, Always with that warm enthusiastic greeting you gave me that made me feel special. I met Fred in 1973 while looking for an apartment on S. Portland Ave. in Brooklyn now known as DUMBO. The apartment was in a brownstone owned by his friend Simon. The brownstone was in a multicultural neighborhood and the brownstone did not have a lock on the front door and the apartmenent had a giant hole in the ceiling. But Fred in his enthusiasm helped me make my decision. I loved living there and we would sit on the stoop and mingle with the neighbors in the most interesting friendly neighborhood. Fred knew everyone and his friend Simon and Ursula and me would always hang out together. We would have meals together, and Fred and I would play very competitive ping pong games that we just loved.. It was interesting that there were no parking spots in all of Brooklyn, but at that time you could park in front of your house on S. portlaand later we would laugh about it
We would play basketball together in the neighborhood and Fred remembers fondly of the annual block party wiith the most interesting assortment of characters.
He would put his large speakers in his open windows to provide music.
And then there was silk screening on T-shirts that he printed of rock stars to sell in Manhattan at concerts
As I remember it was the grateful dead but that was a long time ago.
Fred eventually moved to Massachusetts and lived in a loft on Friend Street just blocks from the
Boston Garden on the top floor and eventually Eileen came into the picture
There were barbecues on the roof, and we just had so much fun.
Eventually Fred got married to Eileen and I was best man at the wedding which to me was quite
an honor.
Our children played together, meaning Emily and my son Justin.
Then there was the Sandcastle competition at Cranes Beach. What a time that was judging the Sandcastle's, and being involved with the competitors in good spirit. Afterwards we went to the Crane estate where we had a clam bake from Woodmans in Essex and serenaded by Mariacci
singers.
Whatever we did always seemed so exciting and that was because of Fred's over the top enthusiasm and attention to detail for whatever he did
There were so many great Fred barbecues and it became even better with the addition of Eileen
Then in later years were the Sunday Patriot games
where Fred held court and a great meal afterwards
that Fred and Eileen put together and even better when the Patriots won, which they usually did.
I will miss his, warmth, sincerity and caring, his
skill for how he tackled and solved problems, his advice to me, and what we shared together as artists.
There is no one like Fred and there never will be
I will fondly miss you my friend and will think of you often.
Your friend David

I am thinking of you Eileen and your lovely family at this sad time. You were all troopers through a difficult illness. He was blessed to have created and lived within such a wonderful family.
